UK plates in spain

Just heard on the grapevine the Spanish police are pulling British vans over and asking for insurance details as they think the van is from the Ukraine 😳 glad I left the GB plates on now.

Comrade...
Was there not another post on here by a Funster who stopped at an Aire and his neighbours thought the same thing.

Had to look it up but UA is the prefix over there.

Sounds about correct!

For me UA is Unauthorised Absence. :giggle:

We were once asked how we got to France from Ecuador....this was a Brit couple who were not familiar with "E" plate being España..also complemented on our knowledge of the English language..👍😁😁🇪🇦

Saw my first UK sticker on a MH yesterday whilst dropping ours off at the dealer for some warranty work ... I much prefer GB ... can you have both?

Not sure if it's an optical illusion but, the UK markers look bigger than the older GB markers.
Is there a legal size requirement?

Yes you can have both but the GB one isn't valid as a country marker any more 👍

It said legal size when I bought ours on ebay.

I've just thought of a possible benefit ... if you only have a UK one then it will confuse the hell out of the illegal immigrants trying to spot a GB one to hitch a lift with so could prove to be a good deterrent!

I've got UK neighbours in a holiday home near us...they arrived in their UK registered car a week or two ago....the enlarged UK symbol make them look conspicuous...wonder why this should be....is someone trying to make a statement or what...🤔

Feel free to print this off.
It may save hassle.

We’re now up to seven people who have asked about the UK plates. Three thought we’d come from the Ukraine. I’m tempted to replace them with GB plates next time. UK plates are just attracting unwarranted attention.

They do not misinterpret a Red Dragon.
Celts of another almost independent nation.
Well just my view

Hey I'm still in France and up to 5 queues about where we're from.

Only for Spain & Malta.
Nope ... if he had the Union Jack with UK underneath he'd have been okay, but by having Eng he still needs a UK sticker.

What do I need to do if I take my car abroad?

The Department for Transport (DfT) guidelines state that "you will need to display a UK sticker clearly on the rear of your vehicle if your number plate has any of the following":
  • a GB identifier with the Union flag
  • a Euro symbol
  • a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales
  • numbers and letters only - no flag or identifier
However, if your number plate already includes a UK identifier with the Union flag - also known as the Union Jack - you do not need to add a sticker when travelling in most EU countries.

"If you’re in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a UK sticker no matter what is on your number plate," the government guidance adds.

"If you have a GB sticker, cover or remove it before driving outside the UK."

I reckon by this time next year they will all be in the bin, next to the Angles Mortes stickers and the breathalyser kits. The only sensible motoring law that s come out lately is the Spanish flashing lights one.

I doubt it as the spanish have slipped in there own version of these which I posted a while back & which are voluntary at present. If they don't standardise them all there will be no room on the vehicles for paintwork:giggle:
There are all sorts of versions of it already on plenty of blue chip company trucks in Uk. I dont think any of them will save one single life because the minority who are causing the problem are convinced that they are immortal and so what does a sign mean?

Can't wait for us to get pulled over then .we're in a ex police van ATM..with a massive but legal sized UK sticker on the back.
Original police indentation decals on the roof and Surry police printed on the bottom of our number plates..🙄

Did see the guadia pulling over a Brit car today .
Probably checking for overstayers though
