Michelin Agilis tyres on 3.5t dethleffs all show cracks at 4 years 15000 miles. I only realised when MOT peoples mentioned last week (as they gave me the pass Certificate !!!). Is this the norm for these tyres. Are all tyres types same. Any advice as where do I go next.

1 type of tyres will get hundreds of different responses. From extreme hate to the best thing since sliced bread.

Not seen it with the CP tyres unless really old, but the Michelin Cross Climate have been problems with sidewalls cracking after a year, there is a thread about it.

I have the same tyres on my tag axle and am now changing the rear four tyres for the first time after 8 years and 56,000 miles. And only because they are down to the wear bars, and no signs of cracking.

Just changed a three year old Michelin Cross climate with the same problem, actually it was looking a bit iffy a year ago when I purchased the van.

Broken most bits now
Changed the 9 year old Agilis on ours when we bought it. Looked perfect with no cracking and plenty of tread after 19k miles so it was really painful to change them but hey ho

Had Agilis on ours and showed signs of cracking at 4 years, definitely obvious at 5 years so changed them for new (same tyres) only 7.5k miles travelled when first showed signs. Have now got wheel covers for very hot weather, although not used on the continent since changing them.

Perhaps disuse has a worse effect on tyres than use. I know caravan tyres tend to crack more than anything due to standing on the without moving for 50 wks of the year in many cases.

Cheers James

Would that be because it is how you treat them and use them determining life span over miles driven?
I was told that if a tyre is used in towns all the time it can do less mileage due to more use of the steering wheel at low speed, compared to running in a straight line up a motorway. So yes where and how they are used must make a difference.
