I’m a newbie
Hi we have had our motorhome 12 months, just had its first MOT, it is a 2015 model. We have been advised to change the tyres as they are the ones from new and it is recommended to change every 6 years.
We had a discussion about motorhome specific tyres v general tyres. Any advice ? we understand the motorhome specific ones are harder, designed to withstand long periods when the vehicle is stood in storage etc. Is it worth the extra cost v either standard tyres or would you go for commercial vehicle tyres ?
Any recommendations on brands ?
As we are now quite confused 🤷‍♂️

thanks Sue

Garage not MOT
Personally if not cracked or perished I would use them and replace later 2 at a time. There will be to schools of thought on here , people with loads of money would replace as soon as they see daylight and the less well off who would use them for longer. It’s personal choice, it’s not a law.

6 years is recommended but what date is on the tyres? and what condition are they in? ( not tread wear but damage or cracking )

a 2015 van could have older tyres.

I know when we replaced 2 tyres the newest date we could get was nearly a year old already, so on the 5 year idea I would only get 4 years out of them , and considering it’s been nowhere for 18 months with covid it would be an expensive pair of tyres. Needless to say they are not being replaced for a while yet.

I think the problem with winter tyres is they make a batch at the start of winter & not again to the following winter as not much call for them in the summer.
The ones I fitted were 9 months old not a problem we get through a set in 3 to 4 years, even with Covid we did 4000 miles last year.
