I thought the harder walls were to counteract long periods of standing, so you don’t get tyre bulging?

Had Falkens on my car, road noise was very loud but not sure it’ll make much difference in a van. They only lasted about 13,000 miles before I needed to change them. Michelin’s lasted 20,000 miles, currently on Avon’s. Like I say, that’s on my car.

Definitely shop around. On my car I managed to get a 25% discount for buying 4 from National Tyres......that was about 18 months ago though.

Worth shopping around Black circle don't seem that cheap these days, I recently bought some tyres for the car Black Circle were 25% dearer than ATS.

And Blackcircles are owned by Michelin!

Definitely shop around. On my car I managed to get a 25% discount for buying 4 from National Tyres......that was about 18 months ago though.

I bought Avons from ATS, was going to buy from Nationwide as about a pound cheaper than ATS then found out you got a further £25 off if you bought two with ATS so saved £50.
Your really have got to look at all the options the ATS deal wasn't obvious.

Fitted Hankook Vantra LT RA18 to our MH to replace the crap Continental Vanco Camper tyres.
The Continental's were as hard as nails, the Hankook's are a much more comfortable ride and less road noise.

I like the sound of Hankook but still a premium price from ASDA

Can I ask if there are definitive/informed answers to the following questions please?

My Agril tyres states on the side walls "116 at 80 psi" - does this imply that at less than 80 psi they are less than a 116 rating?

I have been told that if your tyres are not inflated to the manufactures stated tyre pressures then the police can claim your vehicle is not roadworthy and should it be involved in an accident, then you could find yourself at fault / % blamed?
Is this correct?

Other than Italy where I believe that MH must have MH tyres (?), is it legal to fit any tyre that has the correct rating? (ignoring snow/winter requirements in some countries for the moment)

I'm not trying to get at anyone here - genuinely trying to get some informed view points....

Finally, would it be an idea for the site to have somewhere where members could post any good prices they have found to save us all having to phone around every time we need tyres? (A pinned post?)

When it comes to tyre pressures on a MH it becomes a minefield.

Being new to this game, but experienced in driving various vehicles, I couldn’t believe how complicated it is.

I have 3 sets of pressures to think about......

1. The pressures of the base vehicle.....stated in the Owners Manual and on the door sticker.

2. The pressures in the Converters Manual (Sunlight) which give conflicting pressures to 1.

3. Continental’s recommendation which conflicts with 1 and 2.


Take your pick.

Agreed,that is a bit daft. I go with 65 in fronts and 80 rear which seems to work well.

Transit 3,3T van .door sticker says 50 front 65 rear. I run 50 all round as I'm a tonne under Maximum. If I changed It will be for hankooks rw06 winters. Lovely tyre all year round.

Falken Euroall Season VAN11 225/75 R16R ( 118 ) or

I had these fitted last year, but sadly haven't had much use out of them yet. They are quieter than the Michelins I had before.

Michelin produce a load/inflation chart across a range of wheel sizes/tyre spec

Am I reading the chart correctly??

225/75 R16 single axle Agrils Cross climate

Front axle weight approx 1700 = 850kg per tyre = 40-45psi
Rear axle approx 1800kg = 900kg per tyre = 45-50psi

Total MH max wt 3500kg

This a lot less than the 80psi for the normal agrils tyres!!!!!

Here’s my choices........


On the van sticker.......Front 5 bar (72.5psi). Rear 5.5 bar (79.8psi).

Converters Manual......Front 4.75 bar (69psi). Rear 5.5 bar (79.8psi).

Conti table working on near max axle weighs.......

Front 3.75 bar (54.4psi). Rear 5 bar (72.5psi)

Camper tyres or commercial tyres are like Marmite, some swear by camper tyres & some swear at them.

I prefer to buy normal commercial tyres & simply replace them more often that the horrendously expensive camper variety.

My experience of commercial tyres is based on 30yrs front line ambulance service, these wagons regularly weigh around 5tonnes or more & are abused something rotten, so I feel that I know what I'm talking about.

Our son has these Cooper tyres on a 4x4 Toyota and he’s very happy with the tyres. Unfortunately I doubt the the 100T load index rating would be high enough for a motorhome 100T = 800 kg or 1600kg across the axle.

That’s a good price. I’m running 215s at the moment but think I will go to 225 now.
