Hi all,, again,,more advice needed I’m afraid,,,I’ve just checked the dates on the MH,,fronts all ok, but rears are 9 years old,still plenty of tread,,however, I’m assuming I need to change these even though they look ok,,any advice on the best tyres I should get? Any advice or opinions, views welcomed,,,thanks in advance.

Yes you should be changing them.
Tyre choice is a big subject, depends if you want to have Camping tyres or van tyres, just make sure what ever you choose are the correct load rating.

That’s great thanks,,what’s your opinion on tyres,,obviously, I know about tyres for cars but this is all new to me,,I’m on a HUGE learning curve,and I just want to get it right,,cheers

You may find that the walls are starting to go on the inside this should be identified either at a service or MOT but if your mobile ATS do free tyre checks most good suppliers will have a look for you mine are getting changed this year £98.00 each from round black things but make sure the are able to lift your van to change them.

It’s a Bessacarr e572 Funny thing is I’ve just noticed that the rears are 225/75R16 CP and the fronts are
215/75 R16 C,,can that be right?

Its not unusual for vans that have had rear axle load increased to have changed tyres from 215 to 225 as this increases the load capability of the tyre. On tyre sidewall will be a number like 112 or 116. This is the load rating, have google to find more info. If the front tyres were still ok and did not need an increase they may well have been left on rather than changed, but which size spare to carry.....

Good point,,thanks for the info, on the photo I took it says 116 Q,, so that would be the one to get I take it

Yes but. On van will be at least 1 vin plate which has the max axle loads. A converter may add a second, or an upgrade will add one. You need to have a tyre capable of taking the highest load on these plates.

Yep you’re right there are two, one fiat and one ALKO, both say 2100 & 2400 respectively

You could stick to 215 tyres if you fitted these, they are rated at 116 which is higher than the same sized Michelin camper tyre.

Are you happy with your rear axle loading? If you intended to raise it later you would need to go to 118 or 121. With the amount of stuff we carry we ended up increasing rear from 2400 to 2700. We were confident we were ok until we got on the weighbridge!
But yes for 2400 kg a pair of 116 tyres is ok for 1250 * 2 = 2500kg.

Maybe it may be an idea to go for a larger load index to be on the safe side then?

When I upgraded our Bolero to 3850kg MAUW (the highest the chassis would go) I had to increase the tyre size from 215 to 225 on the rears to cope with the increased load allowance. No compulsion to change the fronts as well but as I was changing to alloy wheels at the same time it made sense to change them all to the same size. I find the rears last approx. twice as long as the front so I change them in pairs and have the best put on the spare (which is still the old steel wheel).
