Tyrepal settings on your van. (1 Viewer)

Hi Everyone, sorry if this aspect of setting up the Tyrepal TPMS has been mentioned before, but I just wanted an idea of what Plus & Minus figures you have set for your Tyrepal?
The reason I ask is that so many of us have different vans with different tyres, pressures and loading's.
There are as you know 2 alarm warnings one for over and under pressure, and another for overheat.
I know that all settings should be made while the van tyres are at ambient temp, but I dont want the alarm going off when the tyres get hot (within reason) on a long downhill road, that involves some light braking.
Example: If running at 79 PSI on rear axle, should I set the alarm pressure for 10 %or 15% of that? also what heat figures do you normally see running on motorways and downhill roads. I am told the tyres can get very hot, so what temp do you set yours for.
I haven't put mine on the van as yet,as I needed an accurate tyre pressure gauge first, so need any tips you can offer.
Edit: I know what it suggests on the box, but I hear some of you think differently.

This doesn't really answer your question, but I've had the tyrepal system on the van for about 6 years (pre solar version), and very good it's been too.

You are right that the tyres can get very hot when travelling at speed on the motorway, especially in hot weather. Likewise, under similar conditions, the pressures increase much more than I'd previously imagined. Also, as you mentioned long braking down steep hills (thinking Grossglockner in Austria! ).

So in the early days, I got occasional alarms going off for one thing or another.

I now have a much wider tolerance on both pressure and temperature than originally set - but UNFORTUNATELY - I can't remember what sort of increased tolerance I used.

I have this model... my fronts 60psi rears 70 pressure max is 12psi over and they generally run at 8-10psi over resting... temps I had at 30c but in Spain when it was 35c I had to put them up to 40c...
Tyres are 225/75/16 continental campers..

That can't be right mine run at 70° at ambients of 30°, I think the default setting is 70°.

Maybe now.... ? think I can remember when it was 35c I put max temp up to 50c and when going over Pyrenees the alarm when off and went to 52c under heavy braking .... a great way to tell if anything is wrong with your brakes...

Still don't believe it in Spain in spring mine were running at 65° front & 70° rear my rear pressures are 73 I dropped them from 79.

Hi TinaL. The they’re pressures quoted by the tyre manufacturer for your van are quoted cold, not at running temperature. They tend to be about 5-10% higher than cold temperature at motorway speeds

I set my alarms at +10 psi and -5psi

Hi Les, we are running Vanco Campers 215/75/15 with these settings and we are normally close to our 3850kg.

We run 63psi on the fronts and 73psi on the rear which gives us a comfortable ride.
The fronts are set to 75 for the high and 55 for the low and on the rears we have 86 for the high and 65 for the low and the high temperature is set at 75c.

Note : A good example of why your need to check/add air to tyres when they are all cool and at the same temperature.
The photo was taken when the n/s front tyre was in the sun and note the difference in temperature and pressure.

Might have to go out and set them when it gets darker then, as they are in full sun at the moment on one side.
I bet you had to reset the TPMS a few times before you got to know the sensible parameters to stop the alarms going off?

I'm with Lenny, I have mine set at 75c.

At 48c mine would be alarming within half a mile down the road.

I reckon TyrePal might know what they are talking about and they set the default at 70c so they must think that it is a good starting point.

Well all I can say is that I drove over 3000 miles with it set at 50 and it only went to 52 coming down over the somport tunnel with all the braking.......

It would be interesting to hear others experiences

Watching this thread with interest. I got a tyrepal system for the motorhome and the toad so ten sensors but have not fitted it yet. Can you set it all up while stood still or do you have to move the vehicles to set it all up.

You can set up your alarm thresholds on the dash unit on your kitchen table if you so wish, as the sensors on the wheels only transmit the tyre pressures and temperatures to the dash for display when they have been woken up when they sense the vehicle in motion.

I always leave temperature at the default and pressures +20%. It's the drop in pressure you really want to be notified. In normal running the pressure will always increase by quite a lot unless seriously overinflated to start with.
Always use the tyre manufacturers recommended pressures for your axle weight rather than those recommended by the converter.

Michelin 225/75 R16 CD 116q.
3320kg, 1600 front axle, 1840 rear on the weighbridge.
4.25 bar front +20% 5.1 - 15% 3.6
5.25 bar rear +20% 6.3 - 15% 4.5
Temps per tyrepal recommation 70c. The sunny side gets near to 70 when driving here in Spain but too date hasn't gone over. Usually 2 to 5 degrees difference between sunny and shade side temps, and around. 05 to. 1 bar difference in pressure.

Seen reports from other Funsters of alarm going off when max temp set to the default 70°c. So not just me.

My tyres got up to 86c after coming down the Commet du Roseland into Beaufort this year. I have the alarm set at 80c It's a 16k steep descent with lots of hairpins and air temp was >30c
The tyres were 30c at top but 60c at bottom but the temp continued to rise once I stopped
It's just heat soak from the brakes and a lack of cooling airflow once I stopped at the aire in Beaufort to dump waste and take on water
