Tyre strategy (1 Viewer)

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure!

I need some guidance on tyre strategy please but please read the points below before offering your opinion:

1) I currently have 5 x Michelin Agilis 225/70R15 CP tyres with a load rating of 112 (I need this load rating for the rear tyres). The front tyres have the date of 0714 and were fitted to the vehicle in August 2014. There is plenty of tread on the tyres but one has some small cracks in the sidewall - see image

2) The rear tyres and spare tyre are dated 2417. Tyres fitted in Dec 2017. The spare has never been on the road or exposed to grime/UV.
3) Michelin do not have any of this size of tyre in the UK and are unable to suggest when they might be available.
4) Continental do not make this size of camper tyre any more. They do make 'C' i.e. van tyres of this size (with the correct load rating) but do not recommend mixing 'C' and 'CP' on a vehicle (that's not on an axle but on the actual vehicle!)

I think that the front tyres should be replaced. but what strategy should I follow?

Options:
A) do nothing at present
B) replace the front tyres with 'C' tyres despite this being against the advice from Continental
C) replace all 5 tyres with 'C' type tyres - anyone want to buy the existing tyres?

I went for option C following speaking with Continental and will never have Michelin CP tyres anywhere near my motorhome ever again.

Personally I would swap that front for the spare now and look to replace them all asap. You could then advertise the newer ones on gumtree or similar if you wanted to

I would fit 5 new tyres, changed mine in September no cracks less than 4 years old but fronts were down to 4mm and rear 5mm couldn't wait to get rid of the crap Michelin Campers. I fitted Toyo Observe Van.

Same problem for me although rear axle. Plenty of tread left but 10 years old so replaced the pair.
Fitted Davanti as recommended by Jaws

Replace them all (with the possibility of keeping the spare)

I would replace the other four tyres with Commercial (Van) tyres choosing one that continues to be readily available,

I would replace all apart from the spare, save yourself some money and gain ride comfort by fitting Toyo Observe Van.

Thanks for the advice.
I am coming to the conclusion that I should buy 5 new C-type tyres - so now I just need to work out which make to buy (and hence how much I have to spend!).

Depending on the size they should be around £80 - £95 each fitted and balanced from your local tyre fitters.

Most independent tyre fitters should have them available to order, another member on here had that size fitted for £79 each.

I paid £85 each for 215/70/15

For 225/75/16 I paid £106 and a local mobile fitter £15 each, that was the cheapest at the time, recently seen them at £140.
Not the winter tyre season at the moment.

Try Camskill for tyres,good selection and good prices. Do not try to buy from the European suppliers like Mytyres. I have just fitted Nokian Roadian.

She may argue with you on the plenty of tread bit!

The 15“ are quite a lot cheaper.

The spare is on a rim? If it's still in good nick, don't bother replacing it. It's pretty unlikely you'll ever need to use it. If you need it in an emergency, it'll still be there. Then next convenient opportunity, get the replacement for the flat and get it mounted and put the spare back for reserve.

If you call out the breakdown services in France or Spain and they refuse to fit your spare because it is the same as the other tyre on the axle you are stuffed.

Fair enough. I guess it depends on where you're travelling and how likely you are to change the wheel yourself.

Get them to jack it and take the wheel off (the hard bit), then put the spare on yourself?
