Tyre pressures (again!) (1 Viewer)

I have a 2009 Ace Adventurer 635EK (same as the Swift Voyager), the hand-book says "see the base vehicle manufacturer's recommended pressures" Fiat recommend 79.1psi all round (which sounds a bit high to me), but on the
Continental Vaneo tyres fitted, it clearly states max pressure 69psi........

So what pressure should I use? I tend to think that Continental know what they are talking about as they made the tyres in the first place. I know the obvious answer is to go to a public weighbridge, note the axle weights and consult the tyre manufacturer, but surely there is a ballpark figure that I can use? I mean the weight varies depending on if I am going away for a weekend or a fortnight, whether my tanks, (fresh, waste and diesel) are full, half-full or empty or indeed anywhere I between.

So what is the collective knowledge on this?

It is best to email Continental with your axle weights, they will respond quite quickly.
Vanco are not original equipment and the door pillar pressures will relate to Michelin that go to 80 psi

You need to check the weights to make sure that the tyre load rating is up to the job, if Fiat say 79psi and the tyres are max 69psi there is something askew somewhere.

I certainly would not go over the manufacturers max rating.

For the record our front axle is about 2100kg and running about 62psi but it depends on tyre size as well 225x75x16.

I looked on the Vancos that we just removed (looking for the date) and although it said max 69 psi it also said on the other side of the tyre that as they were camping tyres they could go up to 5.5 bar...... Confusing? Yes. Good idea to email them; they are very helpful

I know but that marking appears on a number of different makes. 5 Bar is 72.5psi - so if it was intended to be a max marking you would expect it to be 72 (or maybe 70). The fact that it appears on other makes suggests it is to comply with some standard & I read a while back (vague I know but I can't remember the source - maybe MMM) that it was required for the American market & did not represent a maximum pressure for our side of the pond.

Thanks for the answers, I am guessing that no manufacturer wants to give a ball park figure "just in case".

I can't understand why though. Car manufacturers give pressures for different loads and/or sustained high speed use. What is the problem for MH manufacturers? They know the unladen weight, they also know the maximum laden weight, so why can they not give tyre pressure figures for these two extremes?

The Fiat handbook states 5.0 bar front and 5.5bar rear yet the tyres state
69psi max so what is the correct pressure? I have a Besaccarr E450
motorhome on an Fiat X250 Ducato 100MJet XLWB the tyres fitted are
Continental 215/70R15 Cp Max pressure 69psi. The loading is 1850kg front
2000kg rear GVW 3500kg. Thank you for your help regards Steve
