This is the door card. It says 65 PSI in the back. But the tyres say max 65 PSI.

Doesn't seem right running them at max. I might put 59 in the front and say, 62 in the back????
Run them as on the placard. The only thing more accurate than that is to follow the advice of your tyre manufacturer given actual expected axle weights.

i dont have conti camper tyres any longer but they have 68psi max on the tyre wall and conti recommend inflation to 80psi when on a 2 ton rear axle load ( that was for 215 /70 15" 109/107 )

so it depends on the tyre load index and the load placed on the tyre.

Yes, all the tools were missing except the jack. I had to buy one online (waste of money it turns out 💸). I then used a socket ratchet to turn it before descovering the whole thing was totally knackered.
At least yours was Sevel, so they actually sell the thing. Renault/Vauxhal/Nissan it comes as part of a pack including the jack, front seats, cylinder head and ECU.

I havent seen a fitting as such, but after realising exactly how dirty I would get if I had the misfortune to be having to lie down and heave the mechanism back into place I also noticed that welded on part. At least I had the original wrench for the wind down part - pretty much like a modern ratchet spanner in case you hvent seen that part. As for that potential jacking point, looks ideal for a small telescopic bottle jack to me.

I've cut the entire mechanism off the bottom of the van. Not going through that if at the side of the road if I get a puncture! What moron thought this was a good idea?

The spare is going to live under my bed somewhere. I'm going to make a mount for it. I can use the space on the underside of the van where the spare used to be for a water or gas tank? 🤔
We used to have the spare wheel under the bed. Big mistake, we now have a rear door carrier.

I do not know why folk are so anti wind down mechanisms as the really are very simple to use (assuming they are well maintained)
I can get my spare out from under van by a simple few turns of handle and reaching down and pulling it out. Getting it back in is even easier... the attached cable is long enough to drag spare back under van and up into position.

Except that the complex mechanisms fail. Something that you only use once every 5 to 10 years isn't going to be well maintained and oiled. Most people have other things to do with their lives than manually go through every component on their vehicles exercising their moving parts. A simpler mechanism that can't go wrong is much better, even if it is slightly less convenient the once or twice you need it.

Why was it a mistake?
Eats in the premium storage space. Black bag sorts the dirt, but, it’s heavy and cumbersome always in the way of every day usable space. If you are ok with that not a problem, but, not for us. A rear door carrier is much better, saves space and weight in the right place.

I removed mine to make space for the underslung lpg, the mechanism was working just. But give it few months in winter with salt spreading, you will have to cut it out.

PLEASE see ##23... you must really have a lot of things to do if you can't spare 2mins every 2months to wind spare down then back up.
If to much trouble for you then ask it to be done during its annual service.!!!

Just out of interest are these mechanism failures related to one type of van... as i said my 7year old Movano van is still in perfect working order
Maybe I am being a bit harsh if they one on your van is not fit for purpose.

I would have thought it should be used at least once a year, on the service to check the tyre and wheel.

Mine is a vw crafter, and when I removed it was summer 2019 with less than 18 months old van. The bolt in the middle was spinning and the nut was rusted. A bit of wd 40 soak did the job, but on the side of the road is different. I agree this can be prevented with regular copper grease or similar periodically applied.

Then there's all the 50,000 other things that also need 2 minutes attention every 2 months. I'd rather have low maintenance stuff than have an overly complex device that is barely used, mounted just behind the wheels that will get it filthy and rusty and is just waiting to go wrong when you do need it. A bolt on wheel carrier is simpler and less likely to fail. Anyone not willing to crawl underneath won't be jacking up a 4500kg van and fitting the wheel anyway. The RAC guy will be doing that!

I'm a Total Newbie!
Mine is going here. I'll make something to hold it in place. There's room for my folding seat next to the wheel and behind the arch.

I'm not installing the same under the van again. I'm not paying £80 for a new one plus labour to fit a flawed system. And when I work I do fifty hours a week. I'm not crawling around polishing a 💩 mechanism on my day off.

Perhaps when I get my gas installed I'll get them to put the tank where the wheel used to live. 🤔

I don't really want my wheel on my backdoors. It's a lot of weight on the doors and hinges, I bet they're not cheap and I think it's less stealth.

I think it will work for me, personally.

Happy to help
I fitted my spare wheel system myself and bought a wheel cover for £6 to keep it a little cleaner, it needs checking yearly for maintenance.

Here is what I've come up with. Fits in nice and snug, no movement. To get it out I'll have to undo four screws. Much easier. I've put an appropriate screwdriver in the jack box and I usually have my drill in the van anyway. And they aren't going to corrode inside. ☺️☺️
