Any one fitted a tpms to their van, if so which do recommend

I bought a £20 kit from ebay, seems to work well.

Haven't driven the moho yet, but display reads pressure and temperature in each wheel.

Do a search, I wrote a quick review. Here you go..

I have a TyrePal Solar Colour and so far I am very pleased with it.

Previously I had a Fit2Go, now sold as a Michelin TPMS and it gave me trouble. The tyre pressure sensors had a very short life before the battery went flat and the batteries are not replaceable, they expect you to buy expensive new sensors. My advice is that whatever you buy make sure you can change the batteries. The solar only charges the monitor.

You can change the batteries in the TyrePal sensors.

Tyrepal systems are used by a number of Funsters (including us).
There is sometimes a Funsters discount code available. Wombles will be able to advise on this.(y)

I initially installed a cheap system bought from eBay I think. On the first outing it became obvious that the senders on the rear wheels were too far away to register on the head unit. Hence if was sent back and I bought a Tyre-Pal system (that was specifically suitable for motorhomes). It has been great and I would buy from them again - but make sure the version you buy is suitable for a motorhome!

Well-pleased with my Tyrepal Solar. Alerted me to a puncture as I was driving out of an aire, which saved me from a lot of grief further down the road (y)

Are there any after-market TPMSs that allow the tyres to be inflated without removing the sensors......?

Use Tyrepal Solar on the van.

Bought a cheap Chinese set for one of our cars, but a couple things that I did not like about them.
The display was not automatically turned on by movement as the Tyrepal's are and after a few months I needed to add air to a tyre and the sensor had corroded itself onto the wheel valve stem and had to be cut off. Checked the other sensors and another two had to be cut off. You may be able to overcome this by applying silicone grease to the threads.

I try the Chinese set on our van and the rear two had intermittent readings as they were in the edge of their operational distance.

Us too - on our way out of Gloucester Services on way to Stoneleigh Rally & we managed to turn back in to get it sorted in comfort & safety (y)

I believe the Steelmate TP-S1I allows this but the tyres have to be removed from the rims for the sensors to be fitted.

Thanks for all the info, most comprehensive. I also read the article in MMM magazine

Happy with my Chinese one ?? £20

Had Tyrepal Solar now for over a year and no problems. In fact it kept alarming on one wheel that we eventually tracked down to a leaking valve so probably paid for itself in not replacing that wheel eventually.

Our ‘van has tpms fitted....but it doesn’t show individual pressures, just a general alarm if too high or too low......., hence my query about aftermarket kit.

That may be manufacturer fitted TPMS - we have that on both motorhome & car but also have TyrePal for more informative monitoring as can see tyre pressures (including the spare) & spot any slight variations before they become an issue.

We have a cheapie Chinese one at the moment which shows vastly different pressures to those actually in the tyres. I‘ve ordered a Tyrepal solar using Wombles‘ 20% off code and awaiting back order.

TyrePal colour used here purchased at the NEC show this year.

If you get a TyrePal solar just remember not to leave it in direct sun for too long!

Just to add balance, the £20 items fitted to our van are100% accurate, in fact they are a bit to accurate, with the pressures altering as the temperatures change in each tyre.

You hit the jackpot then LesW - I'm afraid ours is hopelessly inaccurate. The eBay seller didn't ever bother replying to any requests for assistance and I didn't raise a complaint as I was concerned that he might have succumbed to COVID-19 in China, which would have been in bad taste. I put it down to experience and ordered a Tyrepal solar via Wombles discount link. It's still on back order.

We had a Fit2go now Michelin, after about a year the sensors went dead, no way to change the batteries, company would not supply new sensors as 'they knew it was a problem' and now had a new system which I could have 10% off. Needless to say I did not bother. It annoyed me they were happy to sell the old system even when they knew it would not last.

I have the same one, discounted with MoHo fun.
warning, don’t leave it on the dash permanently as the solar screen has been known to burn out.

Please be aware, I had a Tyrepal system on my old motorhome and transferred to my new one before realising I now had a built in monitoring system.
When I removed the sensors, after them being on about 14 months, two of the sensors Had corroded slightly and pulled the valve innards out.
So I would suggest you coat the valve with a touch of grease or Vaseline to prevent this.
Cheers
Bill

Does your inbuilt system show individual pressures or, like the one in my ‘van, just a general alert?

It’s just a general alert to loss of pressure but that’s fine With me as that’s all I wanted. I have the same system in my car.

Tyrepal. Brilliant.
