Anyone with a blue badge exemption for the Tyne tunnel beware
Now the pay booths have been removed you must use the INSPECTION lane to have your details checked.
You must reapply for the exemption and open an online account or risk a non payment fine if you drive straight through.
Once it's approved you drive straight through
I didn't know about the inspection lane when I passed on the 23rd Dec so I looked at the website for details.
Haven't got the fine notice yet but told on the southbound inspection lane today to dispute it.

Why do blue badge holders get free use?

Not a clue!
Blue badge and disabled zero road tax both get free travel.
I think it's also available for the Dartford crossing and Clifton suspension bridge

Only disabled zero road tax vehicles get free travel on Dartford crossing.

I remember the tunnel opening in 1967 I was 10 years old, marvellous feat of engineering.
But why do we need to complicate things with free passage for people with disability,
Use the tunnel pay the fee and then they can claim it back through the benefit system and let’s not make it complicated.

That's because they smuggle all the contraband into Northumberland from Durham.
