Hi can anybody please shed some light on my conundrum. I would like to fit a towbar to my moho to pull a small trailer but i am having a couple of difficulties, the first being the two weight plates under the bonnet. the first reads,
FIAT.
3300KG
5800KG
1-1750KG
2-1900KG
The second is as follows. MONCAYO. SA.
3500KG
4750KG
1-1750KG
2-1900KG.
I know that numbers 1 and 2 in both instances refer to front and rear axle weights but what is the max weight limit of the vehicle. I have class C1E on my licence as i used to drive HGV's so that isn't an issue. I just want to be driving legally. The second issue is how can i find out which kind of chassis extensions i have in order to get the correct towbar fitted, i know it isn't an ALKO chassis but it has been suggested that the extensions could be ALKO. If any member can furnish me with any info it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ste.

Max gross looks to be 3500kg and gross train weight 4750 kg on the second plate which looks to be the converters.???

Your gross weight is 3500kg.... The Moncayo plate takes priority.
Sorry can't help with the chassis question.

Gross Vehicle weight is 3500
Maximum train weight is 4750
4750 minus 3500 is 1250
So your trailer must not exceed 1250.

Pics of chassis would probably make identification easier for everyone.

Thanks Andy will take some pics tomorrow as it's too dark at present, although i can't find a towbar with extensions for sale that look anything like mine that's why i have had to resort to posting a thread on here. It's a little frustrating to say the least.

That is incorrect, albeit erring on the side of caution.

The maximum that can be legally towed is the difference between the MTW and the ACTUAL weight of the MH NOT the GVW.

Thus, it is possible to tow more than GTW - GVW.

the chassis comes in 2 variants, alko which is galvanised silver bare metal. the fiat or other make chassis is painted, often white. if extended, then that can be a minefield of options, some unable to fit a towbar to

What year it, does it have a section O on the V5. This would be the max towing mass, I think it came in about 2012.

Thanks Big1 the chassis is white, the extensions are galvanised and are fitted inside the original chassis rails and bolted together they have cut outs to save weight if this give any idea as to origin?.

Given that most 3500 Mhomes are probably right on their weight limit when loaded, it's the better metric to remember IMO, but technically correct I suppose ??

with those details, its a standard chassis with possibly alko extensions. good news is pre 2012 vans, no need for type approved towbar. so any fabricator or towbar specialist will make one to fit. it will need extension legs back to mount on the original fiat? chassis

last one i had made and fitted by a firm in Poole for £300 including electrics

they look very much like alko extensions, too lightweight to be used for a towbar. same advice as my previous post

Almost certainly any further information would have come from a towbar specialist. There is little chance with any mh of buying an over-the-counter towbar even if the extensions are correctly identified. They certainly don't look strong enough, or sufficiently well attached, to enable a simple towbar attachment.

As he ^^^^^ said ?

Thanks again. With only 2 bolts securing the extension to the original chassis i agree they aren't substantial enough so back to my original plan of a storage box.

but with 2 lengths of thick steel angle, a towbar specialist will bolt into the white part of the chassis extending it to the rear without interfering with the light extensions holding up the back of the van

Al-Ko extensions won't rust like that.
They'll rust if welded or badly scratched but not like that.
They are galvanised but not to the quality of Al-Ko
