Hi, I have a whiny, nerve jarring Turbo, does anyone know of a reputable turbo repair/replacement firm anywhere near Essex. It sounds as if a bearing has seized, and I don't fancy the consequences if it gives up the ghost thousands of miles from home

I replaced the dash plywood and soundproofing just over a year ago, got it running nice and quiet but as we set off on our 3 month tour last year the turbo picked up a whine as we entered Germany, and it drove us mad for the next 11 weeks.

I had the new exhaust fitted today and the mechanic ran a turbo cleaner through it, cured the slight lag but not the damn noise. The engine itself is as sweet as can be, always starts on the 1st spin.

We hope to leave in a few weeks for this years 1st 3 month tour but I seriously cannot bear the thought of that racket in my earhole for another 5K miles.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear you are having turbo problems.
I have used www.lesbatemanmotors.co.uk in the past for our Hymer Service and repairs. Give Paul Bateman a call 01702 549306 they are based in Rochford very close to Southend Airport.

It won’t have a seized bearing as it wouldn’t be going round, they can whistle a bit depending on the weather conditions.

probably not the. cheapest around but you get what you pay for IMO
what you don’t want is a poorly built turbo letting go at 25,000 RPM and the engine injesting chunks of metal,

More to the point, possibly, is that the noise might be the least of your problems if you continue to use it as it is. At least get it checked out before you leave on a long trip.

Thanks guys, that is my biggest fear, start out with a dodgy turbo and end up replacing the engine, which in itself could prove a nightmare for a lady of these advanced years.

I'll try Bateman's today as its the closest, and work out from there, appreciate your help.

I was looking at a 3L ducato the other day .2014 , fsh & wondering why it was so cheap( for here) about 10-13 k under normal .then I spotted the mileage..........889,000kms
All original even same clutch.
