Can anyone help with the quickest / easiest route to the German border from the Eurotunnel. Want to do this without stopping both on way out and way back.

Also depends on times. I’ve just come back from Germany to tunnel and I chose the supposedly longer (15-20mins, depending where you look), and went via Lille. Otherwise I would have hit cities such as Brussels at rush hour, which is a known traffic black spot, like most major cities.

Good point. I'll be leaving the terminal in France 1400hrs. When are the busy times in Belgium?

We went around Bruxelles ring after 6pm most times, no dramas, if is 4-5pm week days, then expect some traffic, but nothing compared to m25 at Heathrow.

Thanks folks. Reckon I should be ok. That depends on what Mr Macron decides to do though!

When are you going? Has M. Macron brought in his just announced 14 day reciprocal quarantine yet? Can this be avoided by doing the transit as you suggest?
We are just back and stayed south of Aachen and took the E40 then the A21 and A26 through France to the tunnel. Slightly longer than via Brussels but no big towns to potentially hold us up. Easy journey.

Looking at mid September. Hoping that even if France impose quarantine for UK visitors we will be able to transit through, ultimately to Italy, and do the same on the return leg. Not too bothered about quarantine on return to UK though.

Aachen is definitely the quickest.
As soon as you’re over the border get off at the next junction turn left and the next set of lights has got a cracking pub. Turn right and left into the car park.
Free parking and a cracking pint.

I was given good advice by Suavecarve that Aachen is in the Environmental Zone so that's fine if you have bought the sticker. Otherwise take care where you turn or you might end up with a fine. It's worth having the basic Green Zones App to check out the Environmental Zones.

My directions given are nowhere near the green zone.

Assuming you are going to be in Germany for more than 2 weeks its not a problem going out.

Rob Turner is it this one?

Brussels ring can be (usually) a nightmare.

That’s the one, no facilities, apart from a couple of wheelie bins but it’s free and you don’t have to use the pub/restaurant.
It is very good though.

Thanks all. Great advice. This is why I joined this forum!
Hoping to transit from Germany through Austria to Italy, spend a few weeks there and return the reverse route. Hoping not to need to be in Germany for 2 weeks on return leg, but will if need be.
Thanks again.

All great advice as I, too, am planning a non-stop from Eurotunnel to Aachen September 6th. Yesterday's Telegraph seemed pretty definite that Macron would impose his tit-for-tat quarantine on Brits.
I'm hoping to have a leisurely trip down the Romantic Road from Rothenberg.

Hi, We too are hoping to travel to Italy via Germany in September. If you are only using Germany as a bridge to Italy ie not planning to tour Germany for it's own sake but just head south, you may wish to consider Calais to Siersburg (north of Saarbrucken). This will add over 1 hour to the run but avoids all major cities and will save around 2.5 - 3 hours driving south. There's an ACSI site at Siersburg for the stopover. It's what we intend to do (if Ann relents and actually agrees to go). Had to scrap our planned trip to Greece in May and then September - Still hoping to convince her that Italy will be fine. Good luck and enjoy whatever your route.

Thanks, but I hope to take the tunnel both ways. Would prefer to avoid quarantine on return if possible. Besides, I have tickets to use up. Enjoy your trip. 😀

Liking this thread not transferred our tunnel ticket date yet but our van only has a small fuel tank not done a long enough run to see how far we would get on a full tank. How does getting out the van to fuel up affect Quarantine if I wear gloves and a mask and use CC to pay?

I have been informed that UK Border Force are checking the amount of fuel in the tank on arrival to the UK to see if you have 'topped up' in France - hence required to quarantine for 14 days on return. So.. arrive at Le Shuttle on vapours.

was thinking more of getting to Germany but there is no quarantine I think for Germany, decisions decisions, not much chance of getting the sun there though.
