If we run our Truma water heater on gas, it heats up OK then closes down showing an error message that means no water in heater, although there obviously is.

When it cools down it resets.

On electric there is no problem.

Any suggestions?

We need the model of heater in question before we can offer any meaningful advice.

As far as I'm aware there is no water sensor in the combi units as they can safely be run for space heating without water in them. I will check the book of words tomorrow. Exactly what is the error code that shows, presumably on the truma cp control panel.

@dave newell lvs

Error code #17

“hot water mode with empty water container”

This occurs even days into a trip when water has been used many times. Running the water heater on gas, on “Eco” setting is fine. When running on “hot” it appears to overheat and cuts out. This also prevents gas space heating operating until cooled down.

Gas space heating, on its own, works fine. Water heating on electric also works fine.

We are heading out on a two month tour in 48 hours so have no time to book it in for examination.

We can manage by setting gas to “hot” and monitoring the water temp by hand, and turning off before it gets too hot, but it would be good to find a fix.

Right, best guess would be a faulty internal water temperature sensor or thermostat. Give truma a call tomorrow, their tech dept is very good.

Many thanks.

Will see what they say.

You cannot run the boiler empty on electric only gas

Sorry to disagree but this is incorrect, the heating of water is indirect on both energy sources.
