We have noticed that we are having to keep edging the set point for the heating up and up to get it to come on. Currently nothing happens until 27c. The actual temperature is only 19c in the van.

Anyone any ideas. It's a 3 year old gas/elec truma boiler. I suspect the ambient thermometer is giving an incorrect reading.

Probably the sensor try disconnecting it should run flat out with it disconnected.

We have the simple ?? Dial system . I have to turn it to at least 3 for it to come on and then very quickly we get too hot and then turn it down to 2 or 1 but then it never comes on again no matter how cold it gets. I cannot work out our thermostat either. It is mounted halfway up the wall over the boiler but the TV cupboard door opens out over it covering it and I suspect this affects the thermostat - or it is faulty.

Hello there. Did you get get a response to this? I am having the same problem. At setting 4, it works fine. Down to 2-3. Nothing. Woke up frozen one night. Temp got to 11 deg and boiler never came on? I was told it is the Thermostat. I need to find it 1st :giggle:

Hi
No I haven’t resolved it. The thermostat is a tiny “button” object which looks like this….you only see the top of it.

Yes thank you. I have been told it is in the front by the door. I will have a look tomorrow in daylight. I have a Burstner with a Fiat Chassis. Have you changed yours? Did it work?

No I haven’t changed it, we tend to be able to live with it as we don’t leave it on for long anyway and never overnight.

We have the ??dial (as accurately named by riverbankannie) and find that leaving it at just a smidge under 3 gives us an average of 18c overnight, and 4 around 22 whilst up.

It does vary hugely though and I think its because our thermostat is up high in a "dead air" zone over the door. When it hits, say 26 up there its around 20 where we sit. By the time the air up by the thermostat has cooled enough to trigger upping the fan speed and firing the burner, it's much cooler where we're sat especially with the odd draught.

That said we can live with that when off grid, and when on hookup tend to use a 1 / 2 / 3kw fan heater when up.

There is a setting in the controller called offset. I changed this by 5C and now it comes on at lower settings. There is still a big deadband though.

Do you

where it is?
It's just round the corner from the controller. Because it's wired to the controller, I expect manufacturers will always put it nearby, even if that's not the best place

Thank you. Mine is not as sophistiacted as yours. Will check again near the controller. (y)

Mines not sophisticated but it's quite new. 3 years old. The older ones must have something somewhere to measure temperature.

I just went out and had a look again. I cannot find it. I have just emailed Burstner in Germany, so hopefully they will be able to tell me.(y)

We have a 2012 Bursty Nexxo and our sensor is above the hab door, next to the water / battery control panel.

Ours is also really picky on temperature adjustment on the dial - 1mm above #4 and it's too hot, but 1mm below #4 and it doesn't come on at all until it's almost freezing.

The Classic controller were never very good at temperature control. The CP Plus controller combined with a good installation works very well. I changed the controller in my last van to a CP Plus it was well worth it.

Ooooh, now you've peaked my interest. We like upgrades. We have a Truma Combi system, can i assume the "good installation" you mentioned refers only to the control panel and thermostat and not changing the boiler etc?

I was referring to how well the heating vents have been placed around the Motorhome the installation of these makes a big difference to the performance.

The CP Plus controller is around £200 providing its compatible with your heater its a straight swap. If not you might need a new PCB I think they are getting on for £300.

The CP Plus is about to be phased out I don't think the replacement will be compatible so if you are going to do it, do it now.

Good advice, thank you. Without even looking i can guess which version software ours will have - the one that costs us the most to upgrade.
The only bit that seems to always be cold in our Bursty is right up the front in the cab area, but i think that instead of the heating not being good enough, it's due to the structure of the Ducato base (battery boxes etc) and not having a carpet up front covering the access panels - there are plenty of ducts all over the hab area on both sides that all work.

Thanks for the tip though, good advice from MHF yet again.

Hello. I just saw your response. Sorry. I changed it and it is working fine now. But the issue is where it is located. If it high up, it will take time before detecting the low temperature, which means, it get triggered later !! Mine was high up !!
