what & where was John mcGowans ?
I would have been 20 year old back then
I was a member of Avon valley MCC based in strathaven

edit , had a quick look on company house , is it a engineer business in cambuslang , if so do you remember a young lad Dougie McLean from strathaven (48 year old )

I was a member of Avon valley MCC based in strathaven
Arriving into Strathhaven from the Hamilton end or the EK end there used to be a garage car sales and fuel station on the left Butchers also on the left.
However long time since i have been in that neck of the woods .I remember the Avon valley club although never a member as we had our group mainly had Triumph trophy’s and couple 350 Triumphs and Bsa Strarfires few hondas great times .I also had a Beamish Suzuki trails bike 250

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
Hope you have fun with the Bonnie, I had a pre unit and a unit construction back in the 1960's, best 650 twin I had back then was a 1968 BSA Spitfire MkIV.

Now I like my bikes a tad more reliable This is a beauty and I also have her 800cc bigger sister, though do prefer the 650cc with carbs.

John MGowans Butchers Strathhaven probably long gone by now however I think it may have been trading as Mciver after John died .Lloyds was around by the police station in Hamilton then he moved to bigger premises near Peacock cross .Then later Ek selling clothing.sorry don’t remember Jim Queen.
