Lots now
Last year we didnt get to spain as we went into lockdown over christmas.
This year the ferry from portsmouth is booked for spain on the 13th january (was the 28th December but had to delay slightly due to work commitments) but will we be allowed to go. I love the uk but we really need to find the sun this winter.
Currently as i understand it as long as you are fully vaccinated spain will let us in with just a form filled in 48 hours before, please inform me if im wrong.

Any travel right now is a gamble as rules change overnight.

Just be flexible, if you can’t I wouldn’t go personally.

I am sure it’s safe and I am well jealous, I just couldn’t afford to be stuck abroad.

It looks easier than France atm however 2 issues, 1 is changing rules, the other is ferry cancellations on that route are not uncommon in January. I would get on with it if I were you Gareth.

I am in Spain and have only been asked for my covid passport twice.but as long as you have one, you should be fine .there were some issues last week when the return tests were bought in with ques. I fly back on the 18th and booked a PCR although at present any a flow test is required but emerged my bets.one clinic was fully booked until Christmas.
Booked my additional pcr test now required 2 days of arrival in UK. with national pathology and it has been dispatched so will be waiting for me when I get home.
I have stayed away from highly populated areas

Warm and sunny here you have to do what you feel is best and be careful

Mr porky I could have written your OP. Same thoughts, same dates. I am concerned but going for it. There has to be forward preparation so getting in with these. Have the link to GovUK with auto updates. Not a lot we can do other than keep everything crossed and keep safe until then. We are going into “semi isolation” when we get back from our Christmas trip. 🤞🤞we can meet on the ferry.

We were returned by the Spanish police last year after taking expensive £165 PCR tests. They were negative.

Since June this year, we have been backwards and forwards several times by ferry and air. For both business and pleasure.

The rules have changed every time we traveled. Even overnight and whilst we were abroad.

Currently, you just need to fill out the Spanish health form. It’s different if you fly rather than arrive by ferry or road via France or Andorra.

My advice would be to stick to the plans you have, if anything changes, you will simply have to adjust.

Don’t expect anything logical from any government.

When we were turned back, it was around the time macron shut the tunnel.

Clearly political. Non Europeans and non residents were not allowed into Spain, even with a negative PCR test.

But as an example, a Frenchman, Belgian, German perdón could drive into Spain with no testing whatsoever !.

This was at a time when a Spaniard or Any Spanish resident was not allowed to travel from one Spanish autonomous region to another. Some Not even within that region.

Several countries have already banned UK citizens from entering already. One of them is the Falkland Islands mind.

You take your chances at travel . Everyone is in the same position.

They are the current rules which run until the 31st of December. If they are likely to change it will depend on how the rates are over christmas but as here that goes on until 3 kings I can see them just continuing in to january , so you should be ok.

According to a report I read Sunday night all regions, except Madrid, Castilla Y Leon, Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura & another I forget ,have legally implemented the requirment for covid passes to enter restaurants , bars clubs, any type of cinema or in door entertainment etc; backed by the courts. The only coastal one still erring was Asturias ,I believe.

The unfortunate thing for travellers at this time is that any slight changes in infection rates gives the politicians the opportunity of political gain over other countries.

Having monitored the European figures quite intently for about 8 months prior to things opening up, I realised I was wasting my time when hungary had 26 infections per day and remained on the red list (at the time). Several examples of similar reactions (especially between France and UK)

If i were doing your trip, I would take more notice of how relations are between Spain and UK to see what excuses could be offered if there were a rise in cases in Spain.

On the Costa del Sol we were never asked by any restaurants/bars for any proofs during our 7 day jaunt.
Masks only in shops.

Every restaurant we visited in Spain last week, with more than 49 covers, asked for covid passport.

We had it on our app, the travel version. They also wanted to see photo ID. The last One even asked for our NIE’s. But they had been visited twice by the police already and were super cautious .

I think the Government believe the population is incapable of accessing research and information from around the world now available.
When not if the population become informed, not frightened into compliance, it's not going to be a happy scene.

Hope all goes well with your travel plans, on a light hearted note from an old puppetry show so standby for action:

anything can happen in the next half hour

Apparently the average reading age in the U.K. is of a 9 year old. Given that as a sad ‘fact’ then the Government is probably right !

Was going to post details of COVID protection measures as a precursor to anticipated restrictions on travel etc from WM and devolved Governments, but my last non-motorhome post was moved to an area of the site that I am not allowed to see, so I'll leave people to look for the announcements themselves

Seems there are a lot of us not allowed 🚫 to see or engage in some sections 😉

There's a lot of preparations afoot on several fronts, and there are announcements scheduled today for Scotland and Wales that are likely to curtail travel freedoms; that is excluding the possibility of other countries outwith UK raising the classification of UK to amber or red status, with the potential knock on effects such as 'hotel' quarantine. I've got better things to dowith £5k, so France and Spain will have to wait

At this time, I don’t consider it socially acceptable for people to be moving about or mixing unnecessarily, or behaving in a way that might be interpreted as doing so. Others may not understand that you intend to remain isolated (you do, don’t you?) and will assume that you’re off to party, and may think that “if they are, then so will I”…

It’s easy for me to suggest that unnecessary travel or mixing should not take place because, being the cautious type, I’d rather stay at home than risk it and, after two year’s practice, I’ve become accustomed to it.

Im of the mind that we need to get on with living, whats the reason of working to sit at home and stagnate. I can be responsible in any country and one with better weather is much more preferable. Trippled jabed gives me the protection of not needing an icu bed i believe.

I'm tempted to agree with you but we've had a good life and it'd be selfish to ruin it for the youngsters just for our own enjoyment.
The reason I'm tempted to agree is because I'm no longer sure that to let this thing run its course will be as damaging as was first feared but I'll remain cautious until I'm more sure of the consequences.

After two years of practice, I've become totally fed up of it.

I'm beginning to wonder at what point in time will it ever be 'socially acceptable'. These viruses are here to stay. Risk assess, mitigate risks and get on with life.

A far bigger issue IMO is encouraging EVERYONE to be vaccinated. By the back door if necessary, by making life harder for those who have no justifiable reason not to get jabbed. They are the ones whose behaviour I consider socially unacceptable.

All you can really do is keep your fingers crossed. Everything is changing so fast at the moment.

I can't keep up with how likely it will be that we can see family (in UK) over Christmas, then go a site we are booked onto (with friends, where we will be socially distanced outside) over the New Year period.

I'm following every bit of news for clues and have all our LFT tests here ready to test each day we are travelling. So we've planned as far ahead as we can, but if there's a sudden ban or campsites told to close, there's nothing we can do about it.

Tell you what - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, you keep your fingers crossed for me. It's about as certain as we can all be

Everyone = the whole world, not just your own neighbourhood.

I'm not sure that life will ever return to the way it was.
Just be grateful to be alive and do whatever you can to assist in finding a solution.

It wouldn't be as damaging as was first feared to let it run it's course as the original estimate was based on no vaccination or measures to reduce spread also we've lost a fair few dead who were likely to drop off their perch once infected and did. What I do think is the original estimate that was largely trashed after the first wave looks increasingly believable

Agreed - but we can at least start in our own backyard!
My thinking is that we should spread the defence if we want to travel.
We are being selfish (understandably) by grabbing what we can.

Apparently there's a good bash going to happen down at Downing st this Christmas so if all else is closed head on down there....

Cheers James
