Hi all
I have an eldiss autoquest 140. I have looked at some of the messages regarding maintaining the engine battery. And I’m still confused..
Can anyone recommend a good charger for trickle charging. Please.
Needs to be safe and easy to fit.

Look out for Aldi/Lidl having similar on offer at VERY reasonable cost.

I bought one from Lidl, lasted a week then packed up. No I didn't take it back, just won't buy stuff like that again from there.

Had one for two \ three years now with no problems.
If it's broken take it back under their three year warranty. Never had a problem with either Aldi or Lidl replacing under warranty over 10-12 years (only twice right enough).

I've had 2 from Aldi, first packed in after a few years so bought another.
That lasted around 4 years until I forgot to disconnect before attempting a start on a really bad starting engine..... It killed the charger.
The latest is a Lidl version, I hope it last as long.
The other two could be on charge up to a year at a time with no problem with battery or charger.

As already mentioned, I have three AccuMates of which one is >12 years old and the other two are > 6 years old. All are still working perfectly and in constant use. Sometimes paying a little more works out cheaper in the long run. :giggle:

It's very confusing isn't it, tecmate - accumate - optimate... All the same or related? company.
Just Google optimate 3 and you get there ? the good thing about them is they can only deliver 0.8 amps, so under battery fault condition it isn't enough amps to get anything hot ??

Something like this.... you know this charger that's so badly made that it packed up after a week, well, I'd like you to give me another one just the same...

I've got 2 Lidl chargers and they've been ok. Used one on the van engine battery and still using one for the scooter. They aren't that modern inside ie no surface mount components if I recall correctly, but hey, they're £13.99 ?☺️

I got optimate on my motorcycle and Lidl one on my other vehicle but in the new year I plan on going to VanBitz and getting a battery smart fitted so when it’s on EGU on side of house I hope this will then charge the two batteries

Or get your money back as it's a replace or refund warranty? We've even had a replacement and a full refund (managers discretion) to cover the inconvenience to ourselves.

Have an Oxford charger, it just plugs in and does its thing, supposedly it does bikes, cars and motorhomes.

Before husband died he bought it many years ago and it is basic and automatic

An AA battery rescue man recently told me that the AA are no longer recommending battery maintainers. He said they are fine with good condition new batteries but often disguise problems with older tired batteries. He said many of his winter call outs were to batteries which failed in cold weather despite the use of a battery maintainer. I still use one but it was a cautionary tale that they can’t cure a k_______d battery.
