I'm being tempted by a rather nice coach at Travelworld. Not wanting to get into discussions about which one at this stage. Just would like to hear from anyone who has anything either positive or negative to say about their dealings/negotiations with Travelworld.

Do they usually price fair, what are their warranties like, who is the best person to deal with etc.,

We have never bought from a dealer before and would appreciate your thoughts and comments.

Of all the big dealer they seem the most honest when in discussion with them.

They take pride in their good name but your paying for the privilege of it.

Is it really you thats thinking about buying from them or an associate?

No John, its something that has taken my eye, I have spoken to a guy there called Ross or Russ and he seemed OK, we discussed price and trade in. I just wondered if anyone else had had any dealings with them before I arrange to go down on Saturday and talk some more! ::bigsmile:

Hi Suzy talk to scotjimland his came from there, and he's always spoken well off them. When we went there we weren't very impressed, coach we were interested in was dirty, and we felt as if they thought we were tyre kickers.

We bought our RV from Travelworld, the price was a bit full but we had a part exchange and we really didn't want to hang around and try and sell ours privately so we struck a deal. In all subsequent dealings I have found them to be excellent, they carried out some expensive work under warranty, timely and without question.

The only negative point I have to mention about Travelworld is that their showroom is superb and full of extremely well presented motorhomes and if, like me, you pop into one of their £200,000 models first, it can be a bit of a let down when you actually then start looking at RV's your price range!

Travel World are OK. No better, or worse than that. IMHO they stack up on a level with all the other UK dealers I've visited and if I was to buy another coach from them, it would be because I liked the coach, not because I think their service is excellent.
My first coach, a 1994 Gulfstream Sunsport came from them when they were still at thier grotty place in the centre of Wolverhampton.
It was well presented and spotless.
I dealt with Ross Edwards who, to be fair, was VERY patient with us cos it took a long time to make up our minds to take the plunge with our first RV. I would try NOT to deal with his father Bob, who ffiona and I find to be quite arrogant and condescending.
Listen to what he/they have to say, but do your best to pick out the facts from the B.S, which is no different than visiting any other dealership.
Running the coach you do, I'm sure you already know that you do NOT get 17MPG from a coach that big!!!!!!!! :)
A negative point for me was that I was told the coach had been fully serviced before collection which , as full timers, was even more important to us than for most people. However, within 6 months of purchase (after the pathetic 3 month warantee-at that time) the back brakes started screeching. When they were stripped down (by me and a friendly local American specialist) it was obvious that they had not been touched for 3 years!
I do get the impression that since we've bought from them, they've gone a lot more "high end" and are mainly interested in the Monaco's etc. I also know that a great deal of thier work on coaches based on the Chevy chasssis is farmed out to West Midalnd American Vehicles.
Would I buy from them again.....yes, probably, but not from any thoughts of loyalty/previous good service.
As i say, listen........but dont trust 100%. They are buisness men after all and will tell you what they think you want to hear in order to get the sale.

Hi Suzy

We dealt with Ross Edwards, the few issues we had were dealt with promptly, emails were answered and phone calls returned.
George was immaculate when we picked him up, the hand over was comprehensive but a bit rushed..
Fresh water and LPG tanks were full, diesel tank about 1/4, waste tanks had been cleaned.
Would I buy from them again ? .. yes, if they had the coach I was looking for.

I saw one bad sale while visiting.

A couple were looking round a used motorhome (we had got chatting while there) they asked the salesman to arrange the sale, as they were walking off to do paperwork the salesman was called over by another couple he then proceeded to sell to the second couple I was totally disgusted at this (salesman claimed they had come a long way especially to see that vehicle, but regardless to agree a sale then renage withing minutes, I wasnt impressed.

On a different plane entirely, What I was impressed by was when they went to court to prove Big motohomes do not need anything other than car licences. That case was their salesman.....

Hi, agree with zaskar about the old man, second time we went, another guy dealt with us, and that was a much better experiance. And they did offer a good trade in on the Kentucky, also got a free night in a local campsite that they have a deal with. ::bigsmile: Something that bob didn't offer us the first time.

It was a couple of weeks later that we bought the winnie.

We've just purchased our RV from Travelworld and found the whole experience very pleasant. Spoke to most of the sales people and had a very interesting discussion with Bob. Do your home work before you start to discuss price. They are reasonable and will negotiate. We were intending to personally import from the US and had throughly explored all costs, so knew what price we were prepared to pay. TV eventually came up with a price that made it worthwhile purchasing from them, rather than in the US.

We were very pleased with the standard of the RV and excellent handover by Simon. Only wish I could remember half of what he said!

We would definitely buy from them again.

travelworls parts

The only problem i have with travelworld is when you need anything for your
motorhome the price is way over the top the last time i asked for some catches which go inside the locker doors only to be told that would have to buy the whole
handle very expensive, because i cant buy the catches seperate but when i spoke
to monaco they sent me the catches for 2 dollars each.
Also alternator, travelworld wanted £800 because it comes from the states, i had one sent from the states £300.
Now i dont mind people making a few quid thats business, but i dont like people taking the p*** .
Every time i go through to parts at travelworld i seem to end up with Bob Edwards on the phone i dont think he even looks at the prices on the computer he just reels them off his head. I dont think the rest of the staff are the same because i had someone else ring for the same part and were given a different price but did not speak with Bob.
So be carefull if you need bits and peices for your moyorhome it may be worth
checking the states first.

Now i Know why they call him (robbing bob edwards)

Hi Suzy
Yes from the experience so far, we would recommend Travelworld. We have been dealing with Pete in sales and he is very polite and helpful and has a real sense of humour too......
They are willing to negotiate a good all round deal (they still have to make a profit :roflmto:) and they seem to be very professional so far. We will tell you in about 10 days time what we really think, but so far, so good :thumb:
I liked the coach you are thinking about, it looked beautiful (if indeed it is the one I am thinking of and went into..... :roflmto:)

Hi Suzy
I missed that sorry...... I knew that you were concerned about the mileage however I can catagorically let you know that being driven for miles is much better for a vehicle than being stood..... Personally the mileage wouldn't bother me, providing it had service history and it is a good negotiating tool anyway.....
At the end of the day it is up to you Suzy, these are just my thoughts
Good luck with whatever you decide to do

I agree in principal with Keith, however, my concern wouldn't be the engine but rather other mechanical parts such as brakes, suspension, steering, wheel bearings etc also the general wear and tear on the furnishings and fittings.

Then theres the matter of the price.

High mileage in the States hit the used RV values immensely.

Yet 100k on a bus is high but on a truck a million not out of the question:winky:
