Fellow travellers,
We will be leaving Lake Garda at the end of June to eventually find our way back home via the tunnel. We will have travelled down via overnights Belgium/Lux/Ger/Aus(Innsbruck for 2 days) and looking at what is the best route to travel back. We did Lauterbrunnen/Colmar/Strasbourg last year We have two nights booked in Brugge at the end of this trip but have seven days before we arrive in Brugge. Thought about eastern side of Switzerland or the Romantic Route or the Black Forrest. Spoilt for choice Open to suggestions.
Thank you in anticipation.

Go due West, past Milan and through the LONG tunnel into France, then up past Chambery and Lake Annecy. Have done that both ways, enjoyable!
Make sure you stop at the Sunday market in Chalon-sur-Soane.

We were coming from Como not Garda but it would be still be doable and you could stop off at Como. There's a couple of nice motorhome parks around Como.

We went north from Como, over the mountains and then did a bit of country ticking off, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein and lastly Luxembourg.

Frejus Road Tunnel, 13km or 8.1 miles, between Modane and Bardonecchia. Takes 80% of commercial traffic, according to Wiki!

We meandered our way back from Lake Annecy last year, doing seven stops in all. Much depends on the type of location you prefer and the duration of intermediate stops and leg distances.
Lac de la Liez, Giffaumont-Champaubert, Boussu le Walcourt are offered for your delectation.(other water features are available.)

Assuming that you haven't left yet, I would stop of at Garmisch-Partenkirchen and take the funicular to the top of Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain. It cost us approx €50 per head in 2018 but well worth it. You can do the trip by cable car if you like that sort of thing (we don't!).
If you are of a religious disposition, you could call in at Oberammergau, but the next Passion Play isn't until 2030.

Considerably further off route is Passau (on the Danube) with a magnificent baroque cathedral (Dom).
Alternatively, you could us that as a staging post on the way home and visit Konigsee and Berchtesgaden, with Hitler's Eagles Nest. However, "direct" routes through those Alps are somewhat limited but you could include Venice.

Enjoy - Gordon

This one is a Sosta camper on the edge of the lake. Nice spot. In the town. Has electric too.

Then Futher north at the top of the lake as you head out to the mountains. Very quiet beautiful spot. No electric but has water and waste if I remember correctly.

You mention the eastern side of CH, in general that is the canton Grisons which is really a nice part of the world and some super places to stop there. Think Davos and St Moritz !

We left Garda early afternoon (after another walk around Sirmione) and headed west. We went through the Mont Blanc tunnel and ended up at a campsite on the shores of Lac de Chalain in the Jura. From there it was a quiet meander through France to the tunnel
(we don't really do France anymore now, much preferring DE, CH and I)

Hi there - we have done this run a few times - we tend to go Swiz, Germany, Lux, Belgium to get back to Calais. One point to consider - If you go Switzerland you need to pay either 40 francs (under 3.5 ton for the year) or 25 francs (over 3.5 ton for 10 days) but, the tunnel is free. If you are over 3,5 ton, you pay on line - easy to find the app and to use.
It is worth doing the maths as some of the tolls in France can be Very expensive.

Hi there. If you do go Switzerland and use the Gotthard Tunnel, take a look at Montebelo Castle. There is a place to pare up for the night though you need levelling Up.
Enjoy
