Hiya all, just wondering if any of you have done the journey to Spain in march time.going via Eurotunnel and down through france.weatherwise at that time can roads be difficult, which is the best route for senior members who have never made that journey before.thanks .

Depends on the weather forecast on the day you get to France to see if you take the Western route or Eastern route. Check if the Massif Central region is clear of snow/ice and it can be quite a nice journey up in the hills and an interesting drop down to the south of France towards the end. The Western route is mostly clear of snow/ice but does happen. Hence the weather forecast. I have on one occasion had to swap from to the other when the weather looked better on the other side. If you're flexible on the route you'll be fine for any time of year.

Plus depends on what you plan to do. Wander slowly through France or a quick dash through to Spain. Generally, just go and keep an eye on the weather/demonstrations/union strikes/etc and work around them :)

The East/West route suggestions can be found on the internet and Google comes up with similar suggestions too. Here is Tonka's Western route suggestion from the Resources page on MHF https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/resources/tonkas-western-route-to-spain.99/

Don't worry if going directly through Spain...you would never be allowed to traverse high ground if there were a chance of becoming snowbound...there are holding areas...Huge parking places to hold everyone up prior to clearing the route... another great plus point of how Spain works.,...gritters and ploughs are stationed every few Kms on the usual arterial routes....which in March remains advisable.....👍🇪🇦😄

‘West is best’ (Calais/Rouen/Chartres/Tours/Bordeaux and cross at Irun) as it’s wetter Atlantic weather systems ‘usually’ dictating the weather

We did Spain this March for 8 weeks landing at Santander.we headed towards Rioja wine region. We had to climb into the hill/mountains where men were parked in their snow ploughs. It didn't snow but there was plenty on the edge of the road. Beautiful journey. Coming back through Rhone Alps many sign saying snow chains/tyres compulsory between November and end March.
Unfortunately, the weather in Spain for us was terrible. But we still had a lovely time.
Just enjoy yourselves.
