Hi all, just bought a motorhome and going to travel to Devon from Alicante ,14 July till 1 st September next year. 2 Adults and a German Shepherd. Best route please, looked at Via Michelin, but still unsure. Prefer not too long a crossing on the ferry , but am open to that as well thanks all😎

Hi , I always use the Spanish ferry now. Santander - Plymouth would suit you.

Let me know if you would like a discount code ?.

I’ve travelled this route many times in cars , vans & motorhomes. With time constraints, it works for us. That and unless you have plenty of time and can meander off-route from the toll Autoroutes, costs work out the same as the ferry .

You would need to be quick once the timetables are up as pet friendly cabins sell out fast.

Alicannte , to Valencia, sagunt, on to A23 inland ,teruel, Zaragoza, Huesca, Jaca , through Som port tunnel. Pau & up to Langon, Cadillac, on to Bordeaux ring road & A10 to angoloume, Poitiers, Tours, Vendome, Chartres, Dreuz, Evreux, Rouen A 28 ,Abbeville. You can continue on A16 to calais. From Abbeville I go on D928 across country via Hesdin to St.Omer & left on D300 to drop in to Dunkirk port.

We live in Devon. If you don't want a long crossing then Roscoff to Plymouth would be my suggestion. The dog stays in the vehicle which in that direction will be during the day and take about 5 hours. The return journey will be overnight and the dog will sleep in the vehicle. We have done this crossing many times and never had any problems.

There are shorter and cheaper crossings but you will have more driving.

I was with you up to Tours.

Then I looked at turning left and going via the Roscoff ferry to Plymouth. Distance 271 miles. There are alternatives via Caen to Portsmouth.
Going up to Calais and then onto Devon, in July from the South East in itself is a nightmare and is about 700miles.

Brittany Ferries sail out of Roscoff to Plymouth, Caen To Portsmouth, St Malo to Portsmouth, Cherbourg to Portsmouth, and Cherbourg to Poole.

Here's the Google Maps suggestions. Your date range suggests you plan to do this slowly so I would just work your way up the west coast of France having explored the Pyrenees on the way if the weather is favourable.

The timetable is out already. We’ve booked two trips next year April to June and September can’t book return in December yet.

I always used to stop in essex at the nephews first off & collect the wife from work before going on to Devon. I still travel the same way now although I did plan on using newhaven -dieppe this year , price was similar to dunlirk-dover,as daughter is now in Brighton but concerned as dog is losing his eyesight & was a bit concerned about the additional journey time. When it came to the return journey in august the newhaven-dieppe price was over double the dover-dunkirk.

We did it June down to spain then back in august ...ferry was newhaven to dieppe.4 hr crossing..dead easy..our dog stayed in the car, no problems...straight down, bit of a diversion to miss rouen..through France any way you want..somport tunnel is great..8km long and no charge..
Coming back customs were really good at dieppe..had no hold ups, no accidents no road works..until we got on the M25.....welcome home...🤣🤣

Travel back and forth quite regularly from Devon to France (Lot area) with our dog and have taken variety of routes. Cherbourg or Caen to Portsmouth with a pet friendly cabin is our first choice -shorter crossing and cheaper than Plymouth to Roscoff. Calais to Dover ferry /Eurotunnel always horrible drive especially on M25. Going Dieppe to Newhaven at end of week as travelling without dog this time and we get 20% discount as >60yr age.
