Might be of interest if there was a poll just to have a more accurate idea of lone travellers, Jim, someone, as I have no idea how to do it.
Steve

Yes I was looking for this too. Just saw it at the top of the page.

Thinking on this overnight; It could be done for first timers abroad like flotilla sailing holidays. 1 experienced traveller and motorhomer with say 6 or so 'virgins' in tow. ( no smutty comments please) If and when the 'Virgins' feel confident enough they could then branch off on their own.
Specialist tours to order if you wanted. :thumb:

Fold-up chairs are always useful ............ if accompanied by an intelligent, countryside-loving, board game-playing, combined butler[HI]/RAC man. :winky:[/HI]

I take it that's not 'Ruddy Awful Cook' Maz? ::bigsmile:

I'm lost again. Really I'm quite intelligent but being a newbie to forums this forum makes my cells work harder. I'm not used to the abbreviated language, eg Op, bumps, etc and it has taken me many many months to move around the site. I still can't start a new thread, attach pics on my post, etc.

I really love Motorhome Fun. I can laugh so much at some of the posts, watching everyone abroad is so entertaining and it's like I have friends all over the place. It's great.

So does travel partners mean? A motorhome with other motorhomes linking up, as in a convoy? Or two strangers sharing a motorhome? :Eeek: The mind boggles haha.
opp5. :ROFLMAO: Please do not say is she for real

This makes me sound a bit stupid doesn't it but I thought in a convoy, until I read everyone's posts, so it made me wonder:Blush:

I just asked the missus if she minds me getting a travel partner?
She replied with her "I dare you to fall asleep tonight" look :Eeek:

Joking aside, I think it's a great idea for many. Really lucky myself as we both love being away as often as possible and just don't argue ever (that look is enough ::bigsmile:)

Yo Bebe. You having a bit of a conversation with yourself then:ROFLMAO: sorry to leave you hanging.

OP = original post
bumps = the person hasn't got anything to say but is keeping the post current so it doesn't slip out of the opening page and therefore more likely to get a response.

To start a new thread .... Oh hell, Jim has put some 'How to' use the forum info on here somewhere. Oh yes, look at the top blue bar across the opening page for Help Videos. Broken Link Removed

Hope this helps. ::bigsmile:

A different site to Motorhomefun...? Yes, Jim, if I decide to have a van of some kind I would be interested... It is always safer to travel in numbers...

Think once again a simple premise has been lost in thought innuendo and dare I say humour.

I feel Jim's idea of singles buddying up, to travel together, either in the one van or as many vans as required, a good idea if the people it concerns wish to do that, and they sort out travel arrangements as they see fit. Hence Jim's vote, and he rightly said the no's do not matter as they are not interested and he only wants to gauge those who do.

My suggestion was to open it to all members whether partners or singles, who want information or guidance on or even through any area, be it in UK (- Scotland Sept 18th lol) (my wee joke).
or places on the Continent or beyond (yes I have noticed the space cadets), and this would benefit the whole community. It may even get new members, as during the social evening side strangers to the group could be entrained into the conversation, I personally see it as a win win situation, as if the site expands, we all gain from the spin offs that we can accrue from the site. Jim then does not have to go inventing a new site, and more funsters get to meet each other, find out about the country they live in without resorting to guide books, or only briefly, and I am sure people will be totally amazed about places they would never otherwise find in a guide book.

I will give you one for instance, try and book a site within the boundaries of the city of Glasgow. There is not one so see I can save you time. I can also show you lots of places you can park overnight in the city where you will not be bothered, and its free.
Multiply that by all of our members and hopefully you can see the potential of Jim's basic idea.

Let me add some of my thoughts and concerns as I am a lone travaller but not a single man and have a very trusting wife who I respect.
I would like to travel to Spain/Portugal in my MH at my own pace in my own time, but I have concerns,
(Not listed in any order)
RH drive MH with body bigger that cab so mirror view not that great and driving on RH side of road.
If I feel unwell……phone a friend?
Problems with MH break downs etc.
Being pulled over/mugged.
Have to leave the MH for whatever reason.
A puncture
No one to talk to share your thoughts.
And more……….
All seem quit trivial but could become serious problems when alone in a foreign country.
So take a friend or travel bubby?
Not so simply! Being in close contact with someone 24/7, eat sleep wash cook all within a few feet of each other and a relationship will soon develop. Good/bad who knows?
So you fall out, now you have to sort this out.
So you fall in, now you have to sort this out.
Could be a good laugh, could lead to a load of trouble.
So as I don’t know of anyone who knows me warts and all I will do the next best thing and find someone with similar views but our own space and can offer mutual support to each other.
Now if I were single and travelling alone that would be a very different thing.

If you see that as a problem, do not travel with the opposite sex then go with a guy. Or go in convoy with others in different vans.
So many problems? So many solutions. Simples

We often travel with others.. I think our basic rule of not living in each others pockets ( or trying to ! ) works well.
We travel with folk.. And when we get where we are going say, ok, today we are gonna do xxxx .. What are you gonna do ? Oh.. that sounds good, would you mind if we tag along.. or not as the case may be

In fact very much like the Funster way of doing things !

I would like to be able to travel with others. OH is not always willing to go on a 'wandering' to a place he does not want to visit . Thus I have a tendency to wander off on my own . I do enjoy this but as commented previously it is good to share a new town or view, so a yes from me

I think its a viable idea, although I'm a numpty when it comes to understanding how forums/websites keep going from advertising/subscriptions etc

But I echo what someone else said earlier, bars  not my thing, never been onto "dating" sites so have no experience of those - but if someone has a yearning to travel but never manages to do it for all sorts of reasons - they have a partner who doesn't like to travel - hasn't the time to travel - or they're a single person who either doesn't like travelling alone or lacks the confidence or just wants company - or yes, the chance to meet someone who enjoys the same things they do - that's gotta be a good thing :thumb:

I thought that this site was about connecting MH owners who are lone travellers, with a like minded buddy for shared traveling experience who for what ever reason hasn't got the opportunity to have one of their own. Thereby bring two people together for mutual benefit. Many more journeys are done by themselves than in a convoy.
Did I say anything about gender?

I wouldn't want to go if it were seen as a dating agency. I would only go if it was made clear it is for travellers who, like Steve, would like to gain experience of travelling abroad and have company when going on trips, or whatever is on offer during the journey to various places.

The difference to me would be that often in a normal fun meet I keep my distance as I don't want to be seen as interfering with couples' private space.

I'm thinking of maybe being the guinea pig! I have five weeks touring in April/May but have travelling companions with me. I say companions as one will fly home after two weeks and on the same day, the other will appear

My Five weeks in late Aug/Sept/Oct is single manned at present, and will be Italy.

I think it would be a great idea. Worse thing is - you don't get on. One flies home. Best thing, you have a new friendship like I formed in our three month trip

I think it's a great idea and would have taken advantage of this sort of scheme if was still a solo traveller.

When I first got my 'van, I had a friend who I met on another m/h forum. We travelled to various sites/shows around the uk where he parked next to me and showed me the ropes :winky:

As another single motorhome traveller it would be great to find like minded people to go away with. :thumb:

If ever I found myself on my own Jim, then something like this would be fantastic, if anything ever happened to the boss I would be tempted to sell the RV, although I like my own company I am not a loner and many may find themselves in that position, as you say not a dating site but a companion site :thumb:

Maybe am missing something here, but I thought fun already have a singletons bit. Why would any single traveller want to restrict there travel to just meeting up with single people. I am of the belief that travellers are travellers regardless of if they are single or a couple. I was a single traveller and travelled and went to meets accompanied by both single and couple motorhomers. Am now with a partner but travel often with single people as well as couples. As a matter of fact am camped with 2 single funsters now in Spain. I just cant get my head round why some want to segregate themselves with single people. There have been single travellers that have travelled with funster couples as far as Morocco without feeling the need to be segregated on there own. If its not broke, why mend it. Fun already has a singles forum, why do they need a singles only travel forum. Just my thoughts .

I like the idea of like minded people travelling together. sometimes it is good to travel with someone who may know the area where you are going and can show you the sights but at a distance, if you know what I mean. if you both want to visit Italy for example and wanted some company but then you wanted to visit a different town then meet up again that night. sometimes it is good especially when you live together 24x7 it is good to have anothers company. certainly it is good for the wife to talk to another woman rather than me all the time. Sort of what is going on in Morocco at the moment. We travelled here together, then some went their own ways, and meet up again down the track, but if you need help or advice you know who to ask, and if you want to travel together you have that option if the other agrees..
