My friend is coming back from Spain at the end of March and wants to know if he will be able to travel home to the North East of England once he's arrived in Dover?

I’ve deleted my reply as I’m guessing your asking about quarantine

He’s going home. Why not?
Spain is not on the red list so he need to quarantine in a hotel.
Assume he will quarantine at home. Assuming home is a house?

I expect he will, but untill the current regulations change he is required to have a negative covid test and fill in a destination form where he will isolate / quarantine for 10 days and submit 2 further covid tests ,after day 2 and again at day 8.
Some folks have just returned from Spain via ferries and can probably advise better.

yes. but a neg covid test before leaving france 36 hour jobby and quarantine at home subject to the rules and additional covid tests

After 29th March absolute lockdown is lifted but not quarantine requirements - so my take is yes, he can arrive & travel home, but no stopping.
And quarantine has to be observed.

But between now & then Spain could quite easily slide into the red zone & hotel quarantine required at his expense.

His home is his motorhome. And he will be traveling through France to Calais.

Who knows? Spain maybe on red list soon and others too. He has a right here if British.

Then he will need to quarantine on a site who will take him?
He parked on his Neices drive last year, does he need to go on a site, I'm sure I heard there was only 7 sites for full-timers in the whole of the UK?

I would say his niece’s drive is ok. It’s going to be complicated . Assuming she is not already in a support bubble.
Personally I think as long as all his actions are reasonable and explainable he should be ok.

He should be Ok to travel under the current rules.
He will need to submit an acceptable address for the isolation period, and to receive the test kits, he can also expect to get almost daily calls from the "return, tracking, testing team" checking his welfare, testing and results. We are on day 5 of our isolation and so far have received 7 calls. Hope Spain remains off the Red list.
Cheers
Ed
Edit: He will also need to keep isolated from his family member unless they wish to join them for the ten days.

Can't really see why spain should be going on the red list when daily cases and deaths are below the UK, & without any benefit of vaccination?

& you have to ask why not ?
It has only been modified once in 12 months?
Why do people still need 00's of pounds worth of tests they didn't need 4 weeks ago when the daily infection rate has plummeted?

if by some figment of someone's imagination spain did actually end up on the red list all he has to do is wander around France on way home to exceed 10 days & therefore he has complied with the requirements.

Personally I have long thought that the continuance of the quarantine restrictions & multiple tests to enter the Uk is now soley political to give room for manoeuvre with the EU.

He normally would spend a few weeks travelling home through France in May, as would we, but alas he must return in March.

Why?
Because them's the rules.
Lots of doesn't make much sense to me...

Spain into red zone?
Because it's been mentioned several times & because local lockdowns have been re-imposed according to funsters.

People can always find loopholes & justifications for their (proposed) actions.
Or they can follow the spirit of the rules & guidelines as best they can for the benefit of society in general.

But don't be surprised if a proposed course of action isn't met with universal approval by people mostly locked down in their houses separate from family & not coming back from a jolly to Spain.

yes more fake news. & yes numbers here are now less per day without having the benefit of having vaccinated people, schools, dentists, hairdressers , everything apart from eat in restaurants ,are & have been open throughout & the new lockdown for Judiths locale is due to 3 new cases last week.Yes ,thats 3 , as in three.

Not sure the calculation is based on general numbers falling or rising but by the number of positive tests with the Brazilian and South African variants. The main aim of the current entry restrictions is to prevent entry from 'Red' countries with the variants, the only reason Portugal is on the list is because of it's close contacts with Brazil.

A quick Google brings up the story in many press outlets.
That's all.

As I understand it, the UK government has booked these ‘quarantine hotels’ for a period of six weeks, which would end on 29 March. However, this could probably be extended if they wanted to - for whatever reason.

The given reason for people needing to quarantine in these hotels is that they have come into the UK from countries with more infectious Covid variants. Therefore unless Spain and/or France produce their own new ‘variant of concern’ I see no logical reason for them to be added to the Red List.

I wish your friend a safe journey back to the UK. I also hope that this thread does not deteriorate into yet another one knocking fulltimers for daring to have spent the winter abroad when they were perfectly entitled to have done so.

Am I right in thinking that the same is true in reverse and should we wish to visit Europe that we have to drive directly to a campsite or similar to quarantine? Friends living in France are away in their MH and staying on Aires around France but will not be visiting Spain as they say with French plates they would not receive a warm welcome
