I'm a Newbie
Just returned from a fab week touring the Cairngorms and the Angus Glens. This was our first “proper” trip away in our Hymer 654 (Fiat 2.8 JTD). On the whole the van performed well but it’s developed a very distinct transmission knock. When coming off the power then back on quickly it clunks. It does the same when changing gear. I’m not especially familiar with this power train. My initial thoughts are driveshaft or mounting failing somewhere. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you are probably correct, jack it up if you can and turn a wheel backwards and forwards, you may hear something, engine mounts, you may see something or you may need to get a bar and leaver them to see if they move.

that is usually the lower gearbox mounting & if you look under the passenger side(RHD) or drivers side(LHD) yo will see it. It is round in shape & bolts to the bottom of the gearboxx next to the diff & through a pair of supports welded to the floor .looks like this but be aware there are various sizes.

2 bolts on right attach to gearbox & the rubber doughnut goes inside the 2 floor brackets.

Thanks, this would fit with how this feels. I’ll have a look later this week.

gearbox mount, I had the same problem and a cheap fix
