I had no idea the set up involved .
Our neighbours have being setting up for over an hour and a half and still don’t look anywhere near to completing this Herculean task .
It’s brutally hot and looks like a military operation. Certainly not for me .

Yep. They are a lot of work. Reminds me of being a kid again.

I had one for years - single mum with two young kids who miraculously went AWOL when we got to the campsite! Had to put it all together single-handed after a 2-3 hour drive, often in heat, rain or gusty wind. So glad I have a campervan now that I am at the ‘crumbly’ stage - definitely a job for the young and fit, and preferably two of you who can work together without murder in mind!!

In the past we had a trailer tent. The idea is good but still needs a lot of pegging. We've also had a folding camper, the downside was you still had to make nocturnal trips to the facilities! Also if you wanted to pitch the awning it was like erecting a frame tent.

Hi.
Mid 80's,at Matley Wood Forestry Commission site.( Just past the cricket ground Lyndhurst, was MAGIC ) LOADS of walks for dogs and a magical Forest playground for kids. Keith Stennet RIP and myself with wives, were all set up in our c/vans This lady with two children ( No man ) pulls on with a Trailer tent and tried her best to get set up. We BOTH got out and HELPED her. Later as Keith and our ladies sat having a drink we said how difficult it was to get it set up...BUT. The lady and the children were cosy and having the same holiday as us.
" A bit of help is worth a lot of pity ".... Struggling one windy day to fold up a big lorry sheet in a yard,an old boy came across and gave me a hand. I thanked him... His reply... " A bit of help is worth a lot of pity " Never ever forget that.
Swifter. This is NOT an attack on you, just an observation. Sometimes if you offer help it can be rudely refused, had that happen as well.

I thought they were a quick and easy solution.
Feel sorry for the poor bloke . He’s been left to do it on his own .
I’ve only just realised this isn’t a trailer tent . It’s a tent that was carried to the site in a trailer 🤭.
It’s hot and I’ve had a few beers .
That’s my excuse 😆

They are a lot of work but not that much work :-/ I've had a couple many moons ago and could get it all up in about 30 minutes. Wouldn't have one again though compared to a motorhome

We've had two - when the kids were little they were great, much more floor space than a van and 4 separate bedroom areas in ours. But they are a lot of work to put up and take down - or rather the larger ones are, there are some clever small ones aimed at couples with no kids that are pretty quick & easy to put up.

Ours went and was replaced with a van as needs changed and because it was so much work it was only getting used once or twice a year.

I do enjoy camping though, I miss it when in the MH - though I still so some with the motorbike, most recently at the Isle of Man TT.

We had one for years, great once they were up but Nick and I would usually not be speaking to one another by the time it was put up. Fine again by the next morning. Children no use as short as well! Didn’t mind the pegging down it was the height , pulling out the living area and all the poles and then the awning bit, nightmare. We’d both be on stools.

Fraid not Teabag! Although I will admit to trailertenting throughout the 80s and 90s. My girls are now in their mid 40s and do indeed have some memories! They both used to bring their pet rats on holiday with us, so there are several sites where I am still known as ‘the rat lady’!!!!

But did it stay up ? It all very well “ getting it up “ but the real test is keeping it up 😆🤭

We got quite slick at putting up our Conway trailer tent but when we started looking at motorhomes and campers one stipulation was no more night time wanderings to the loo. Also it would be two berth to enforce the smaller people are not travelling with us any more.
Our first trip with our PVC we pulled up on the pitch and plugged in. We both felt there was something else we should be doing.

Hi whippetlady.

I originated in the south-east rather than the north-east! No interest in pigeons, but whippets are the best travelling companions ever!

I noticed not even any photos.

We have had tents, frame tents, trailer tents, a folding camper & caravans.

We had one many years ago - brilliant for stopping put for a week or more, and you can use the trailer section alone for an easy overnight. But after our (tall) teenage son was no longer going with us it became increasingly hard work. Mind ours was a Conway with a hexagonal shaped awning front, and a ceiling panel, which made a major difference to heat insulation but was hard work.

Just did a couple nights bush camping in Australia, my lads set up is a trailertent aussie style. Easy to set up , one flick of the bar and a few poles, then…….putting up the awning bit was a mission for four people 2 hours …. Just too old for it but great fun for younger peeps
