Thought I'd check our knowledgeable community first. My car trailer has developed a problem whilst we are now in the Scottish Highlands. My Indicators are working fine but no stop/tail lights.
I've checked all the obvious places but nothing.
Any ideas please??

To save lengthy 'try this, try that' replies and you've already done it, what do you mean by 'obvious places'?
Bulbs?
Holders?
Earths?
Checked socket/plug with a test meter?

If you have a good earth on your indicators there must be multiple faults. Brake lights. Left side lights. Right side lights.
If it was me I’d check the earth first to make sure.

I`d Go Earth`s First too. It`s the only common factor?. (Usually the white cable on a 7 pin setup)

Do you have a CamBus wiring adaptor box? They can can fail pretty easily.

If you've got a dedicated CAN wiring kit fitted, you'll probably find the fuses for the towbar electrics in the battery compartment (under the cab floor), it could be worth checking them first. If one has blown and only blows with the trailer on, there will be a fault on the trailer.

I had that problem whilst in Portugal and discovered that there were fuses in the towing loom control box and that was positioned on top of engine battery there were two fuses and one had blown I replaced it and Bobs your uncle no problems since, think it’s must have shorted when a bulb jumped out of its holder on their rough roads.😊

Yup fuse & earth check required.

Also clean it and get some contact cleaner/water repellent on it.

THey can be fickle all the same...

If possible I suggest you try and borrow a trailer board to confirm the socket on the van is working properly then at least you’ll know if the problem is with the trailer or the van.
If the towing socket on the van is working properly I’d be having a look at the connections inside the trailer plug next.

I assume its a trailer problem as the i indicators are working fine. Only issues are marker lights and stop/tail. Full check of advised cures today.
Many thanks everyone.

Ebay and Amazon sell a vehicle/trailer plug in light tester. With this you can isolate the problem. Handy to keep on board and just plug and play. They range from £7.00 to £12.00.

What motorhome do you have. do you know what company fitted the Towbar. Do you have LED side lights and brake lights on your vehicle

Its only the marker lights and stop and tail that are off. Indicators are fine. I'm now thinking it's the 5/13 pin adapter so going down that road but thanks.

That tells you nothing about whether the problem is in the vehicle or the trailer.

I'm finding it difficult to pinpoint the problem as all my gear is at home and I'm in Grantown on Spey.
I've dismantled all the plugs on van + trailer, checked the earth so stuck. The wardens here are the not really approachable due to the covid.
