We'd like to say it is a great deal being offered by Eddie, but we would like to advise Funsters of our experience.

4 years ago had a Tracker fitted to our previous Dodge Ram, a tracking device was a condition of the insurance company. Once fitted we were informed that if using ferries we would need to contact Tracker to advise as the vehicle would be in motion without keys in the ignition.

We broke down on the M25 and had to be recovered, the vehicle on the breakdown truck without keys in the ignition, same as being on a ferry, we were in another vehicle in front of the breakdown truck going up the M11 when we realised we had not called Tracker and expected to hear the police chasing the recovery driver, but two days later still had not heard from Tracker. We gave them a call and when they checked they said the Tracker was not working. They came out and checked it and got it working, so how can you tell if your Tracker is working??

Because of this, we decided on our next Dodge Ram that we wanted a system whereby we could also check it's location, so we have now had fitted a tracking system from Smartrack, we just log an and at anytime we can see it's location, we are much happier and we can confirm it is working and not paying the annual subscription fee of around £130.00 for nothing. We have also been called by Smartrack on a couple of occasions when we have been working on the vehicle and the battery has been disconnected. This NEVER happened with Tracker even when we had our vehicle in storage, the batteries were always disconnected when we left it.

We have not read any information on Eddies system, so can't compare it with our experiences, but thought you might like to hear our story.

Good post thank you for your comments. The systems you mention of course are not those on offer.

Smartrack is a good system, it uses I believe the Meta TVM800 which we sell as a self monitoring system. This makes it not acceptable to a number of insurers. Smartrack direct the information away from the customer to their own staff, thus making it a monitored system, so acceptable to insurers.

Tracker have a number of different options and systems.

Trackstar will allow you to contact them and request a position check to eliminate this problem. There is no maximum and minimum on this number but if you rang them every week they may get a bit fed up :roflmto:

The points that you have made in your posts are all part of the reason that we decided to deal exclusively with Trafficmaster some years ago, after a well known company had gone bust, leaving loads of people with equipment fitted and no one to talk to! We of course got the blame, so took all the defunct equipment out and did a deal with what was then RAC Trackstar.

Since then we have seen (this is not all of them) Recall, SKYNet, Telematics, Eagle Eye, SKAMP, LEO (Low Earth Orbit) Ross Autotronics all in all about a dozen that we had some form of contact with!

Trafficmaster when tested was of course the Sunday Times best buy Broken Link Removed

If someone breaks in your home gets your keys and drives off how does this system do anything? I am asking as this would be the normal way a thief gets your motor today

No current systems can tell the difference between you and a thief or a freind or a garage etc

So if I walk up to your van with the correct keys and alarm fob i can turn the alarm off, unlock the doors and drive the vehicle away. Any tracking device at this stage would assume it was you.

When you come and see the van gone, you contact Trackstar, and then the process starts.

If the motorhome is dragged on to a low loader, the system knows that the motorhome is moving and the engine isn't running so then the unit would alert the control centre who in turn would contact you

Thank you Eddie, so trackstar can remotely activate the unit to find out where your van is in the event they use your keys?
sorry for all the questions and being a PITA just trying to see the benefits of the system,I read some think the subs are expensive, that would be a plus in some ways as if they charge very little the are perhaps going to go bust?

The unit is working all of the time to all intents and purposes, it is just how it impacts on you. If you had to "check in" all the time, human nature as it is would mean that you would either forget to turn it on, or forget to turn it off:winky:

So, if the vehicle is started with the correct keys etc it is assumed that you are driving the motorhome so you are ignored. However, if the vehicle is moving and the engine isn't running, that is unusual so you are contacted.

At that stage after a quick chat to the Police and a Crime Reference Number obtained (CRN) Trackstar liase directly with the Police.

Regarding costs, on a forum you can say the cost is £20 and some one posts saying that there brother paid a £1000 and then that is set in stone that that is the price:Doh:

£249.00 pays for the equipment and the 1st years monitoring. We have a really good, historic deal, negotiated with Trafficmaster where you can instead of taking the 1st year FOC you can pay an additional £299 to Trafficmaster and have what is known as duration.

This means that you will pay no more money for monitoring and subscription all the while you own the vehicle.

So keep the van five years and the yearly fee has cost you £59.80 a year for the biggest selling system on the market.

There are "monitored:ROFLMAO:" systems around, often discussed on the forums where the "monitoring:ROFLMAO:" is done by the same bloke that answers the phone when you want it fitted, and is the same bloke that does the fitting:Doh:

Nothing wrong with enterprise or working hard, but, to offer a monitoring service 365 days a year 24 hours a day is an expensive and logistical problem which in my opinion only the really big players can cope with.

This is why a lot of the smaller companies use EuroWatch to handle the European side of the tracking. EuroWatch is owned by Trafficmaster as is Trackstar:thumb:

Hi Shiftzz

To get the deal it will have to be Van Bitz, there are lots of companies installing Trackstar (which is why it is the market leading system) you will simply pay a lot more for the system. Because Van Bitz by the systems in very large quantities we can offer such tremendous deals.

What data do you mean?
