Trackers on Ferries

Does anybody know?

The scenario:

You have a vehicle tracker that uses the mobile phone network.

It contains a SIM that allows you to roam through Europe at no extra cost.

You take the ferry to Spain.

Questions:

While onboard will the SIM latch onto the ship's satellite-based mobile phone network?
If so, how much will that set you back in data costs?
Will it even work in the hold anyway?

Don't know but why not turn it off, not like anyone will steal it, is it.

If its a monitored tracker it's only a phone call to the center.

Vodafone will not connect to shipboard data except for business users according to the text messages I got on my recent cruise.

I had two very expensive cars back in 2000/2001

Both had tracker
Never had a call from tracker when we boarded the ferries

We have scorpion tracker. On ferry from caen to uk I had a call as van was moving with ignition off.
As it was just leaving port assume it was on land based mobile signal.
We usually use the tunnel, never had a call for that.
No facility provided by installer to turn tracker off, dont even know where it is!

I fitted our first "tracker" in 1996 It was called LEO (Low Earth Orbit) it was manufactured by a company called Global Telematics

In the early days, the monitoring centres would jump on anything, but after a while, phoning customers to ask them why the van was moving without the ignition on, across the Bay of Biscay or the English Channel became boring for them.

So the monitored systems "ask" that you notify them when going on a ferry, but don't get to upset if the customers forget
