just bought a cheap online tracker thinking it would be battery powered.
No it needs hard wiring to the battery Does it need to be engine or hab battery?

Yes they do need to be hard wired to a battery
We’ve wired ours directly to the leisure battery as we have solar to keep the battery topped up, though you could wire it to the engine battery if you have a battery master to prevent the engine battery being flattened

Mine is wired to ignition via cab battery so its only activated when no key in
