Hi everyone. A very basic question. Is there any point in having a monitored tracker? After reading the article about the woman packing to go skiing and having her van taken its made me think about the point of trackers. In this case the Police were not interested. In my case, even if I knew where my van was I wouldn't feel able to get it back myself. So how does a tracker help me?

I haven’t seen the article but some insurance companies insist on a monitored tracker. They probably like to recover the vehicle rather than pay out a total loss claim. Can you provide a link to the article?

you will find people say dont bother but...I have these and they use a range of tracking technology, a friend who is a Farmer had some equipment stollen and had this providers products installed and the equipment was recovered. Your money Your choice.

It's on 'fun' home page. The woman had left the keys in whilst loading.

I probably wouldn't have one if it weren't an insurance requirement.
I'd rather invest the money into measures which stop it getting taken in the first place.

After having 4 excavators weighing up to 22t stolen over the years and not finding any of them I think they are a complete waste of time. I only have them on my vehicles if insurance insists, the car I recently bought had a Vodafone tracker fitted and I have found dealing with them a nightmare!!

Just a thought on insurance premiums, if you have your car stollen and we had two taken in a break in (without Trackers) our MoHo which wasn't stollen, the premium went from £400 to £3,000 now whilst I had the 'best' price from another broker at £1200 these high costs will stay with you for 5 years and these were no fault thefts

When I purchased my motorhome I spoke to the dealer about alarms etc he told me insurance companies not that interested in alarms but most insisted on a tracker, so that’s the route I chose.
I quite like to see updates, especially the charge on the battery.
It also amuses me to look at my trips and the speeds I traveled at, mostly below 60.
Obviously not good enough for an Italian tune up!

It may have changed since 2019, however my subscription ran out, I then found out I had to pay £500ish to have a new device hidden somewhere then pay the subscription. For me, as I have a lowish value van it really didn't warrant spending the money. It is probably different for those with higher value newer vans.

Always fascinated me how it is possible? I recall ,years ago, a weighbridge being transported at night under 'oversized load ' permits & parked up during the day ina lay by.When they returned the next night it had gone.🤷‍♂️
How do they know where they are hidden? Can they find them with an App or a tracker?
See what I did there, I’ll get my coat.
I've no idea if there is a 'detector' but you can buy a 'jammer' that prevents it from being tracked until they do find it.Totally illegal to use but perfectly legal to be sold 🤷‍♂️what is all that about? Why is it that something that is so easy to prevent not sorted by the politicians?

My friend had a tracker fitted to his motorhome.

The van was stolen from his driveway one night and the tracker was found in a field a couple of miles away 🤷‍♀️

........ and that's why I have an "asset tracker" fitted to our van, as well as a normal tracker which I consider to be sacrificial in such a case.

I have one on the van, my main motorbike and there is one on the car too. I find them helpful and reassuring in a few ways together with potentially helping if any are stolen.

Only the bike had to have one fitted for the insurance when i bought it. Probably doesn’t now but i keep it monitored. But the manufacture had installed them as standard anyway so only had to activate the subscription.

It does seem like a canny bit of money but then the value of the vehicles isn’t exactly peanuts.

The 22 ton machine I had stolen from Woking had to have a movement order to be delivered there from Bristol and that took about 4 days to get!! Apparently it was loaded up at about 4 in the morning then had to drive past the local police station outside the site😂😂😂

That’s the beauty of the vanbitz/wattguardz meta non starter!
Other than lifting with a crane or towing they can’t get the van started if you enable it on the app!!
This is what makes my blood boil with insurance companies, I can get a tracker with subscription and when it gets nicked the nice lady at the call centre will tell you where it’s being burned out or stripped out, whereas my non starter would ensure it doesn’t go off my drive in the first place yet they won’t give me any money off my premium!!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

My son and his partner had both cars stolen, his partner's car was found later burned out so probably used to locate and steal another. Son's car had a manufacturer's tracker as part of the car which he used to locate the it. He informed the police who collected it from where it was obviously parked in an urban street to 'cool down'. Eventually returned to my son and the insurance paid out for various bits of damage caused by the miscreants. I've no idea if anyone was caught & charged over the theft.
So yes there can be a good outcome when a tracker is fitted.

That sounds worth having. Is that monitored? Subscription? Which Vanbitz is it?

same as what I have now Wattguardz not Vanbitz. Tracker, alarm and immobiliser! Last 3 motorhomes have all had it, I should have a loyalty card lol.

It is now wattguardz contact AshWattGuardz he can advise you on either👍
There is no one better at installing alarms and trackers, based in Somerset with a free nights camping with every installation👍

I have a tracker which cost me £35 fitted to my van in a place of my choosing so not easily found (I hope) It has a geofench so if it leaves I get a text within 10 seconds so can see where it is on an app. The subs are £50 a year. Perhaps I have 2 at that price!! Not needed on my insurance.

Did you do this yourself?
