Whilst in Zahora a few years ago Bryan ( ex admin assistant on here ) got pulled using an A frame in Spain.
He was fines and forced to unhook there and then.. Fortunately Suzy could drive and had to do so for the next few hundred miles

No idea about France but lost count of the people who have been nicked in Spain and who we have seen parked at roadside with an a frame and with plod in attendance

It should be 50/50..

50% you will get away with it and no issues.
50% you get stopped and fined and made to unhook..

I've voted for the other twenty. But probably should vote for both as I have 20/20 vision* with glasses.

*Which means I have average eyesight as you all know. 40/20 is much better. :)

Yes that is exactly what they make you do. But if caught a second time the car will be impounded.

They impound the car..? I thought it was a 600 euro fine?.. On the other hand, how do they know that you've already been pulled..

Yes it's a 600 euro fine then the motorhome reg and car reg go on a data base which is valid throughout Spain if caught again anywhere in Spain the put car in a compound. It's a easy process to get it out again involving copious amounts of duplicated paperwork plus 5 copies of each sheet. Plus the handing over of the daily storage charge which could be any amount depending on their mood. All done in a relatively short space of time for Spain around 3 months. Good luck if your coming here with a A frame.

Once you put an A frame on a car surely it then becomes a trailer & not a car being towed?

Nope, a trailer has its own wheels. A car on an A Frame is a car being dragged along the road in the eyes of the Spanish police. An A Frame can only be used for recovery.

It's a A frame it's illegal here end of. But be my guest and try it. You could even try arguing the point with traffico but if u do the fine will double. Spain is in a worse financial state than Greece and they are fining every one for the slightest infringement not just traffic related

Interestingly we towed a car on a trailer from Santander to La Manga last week and our friend's who were with us were towing a car on a A frame. Several police cars passed us but they were never stopped.
