Considering this. We have a 6m PVC and travel abroad for up to 8 weeks at a time. We take a lot of stuff, eg drive away awning, bikes, panniers, rucksacks, boots and so on plus a dog and associated paraphernalia. We also like to wild camp if possible, so would like to have an extra toilet cassette and be able to travel with full water tank.
(Not to mention wife's clothes and shoes:rolleyes:)
Used to tow a caravan, so towing itself is not an issue, (although I think accurately reversing a big thing with a wee thing is easier than the other way round)
Ideally would like something with a lockable flat lid we could mount the bikes on top of.
Anyone do similar, would appreciate advice and recommendations.

We used to tow a Bateson 120v van trailer, this took our bikes and a lot of other stuff as well. Not cheap at around 2k but very good.

Great way to remove payload-anxiety instantly, slightly restrictive with 60mph limit and cant use 3rd lane of motorway

I would happily do it, very flexible

If its just a day at the beach, leave it behind:hugs:

"Used to". Why did you stop? (Avatar suggests a 6m PVC like me)

Used it for the Winter trip to Spain but realised that taking the car would be better so sold it and bought a trailer.
If we stop going for 6 months I would buy another Bateson and take that.

We've just done the same for similar reasons, extra space and payload (perhaps should read balancing of payload...)

Added that extra toilet cassette, 5 bikes, dog trailer, BBQ, canoe, cycling gear, life jackets, 2 chairs, pizza oven etc etc...

Ignore the hens, they always follow me around expecting food...

As we did this on a budget we went for a regular flatbed trailer that had a hightop framed cover, much cheaper and lighter than a solid trailer but of course less secure. Weight (lightness) of the trailer was a key driver for us as i wanted to be able to move it around single handedly with ease and when we looked at the solid trailers they were 3 x the weight roughly. I added the rear supports (important for loading) and some wheel chocks, plus since i've added some shelves and a few places to hang things up.

Overall for us it's been a great step in allowing us to do more things when we are away, activities = happy children.

I used a box trailer with our previous van, a towAvan 6x4x4 fully braked job. Absolutely excellent as we need to take 2 mobility scooters and other stuff. Now with the bigger van one goes in the garage and the other in the small car we tow

The trailer is now a very expensive rolling shed, but last time I had one and sold it, I regretted it within a couple of weeks. Second hand they are worth over £1000 for a good one if you can find one and are quick. Lost count of the number of people asking to buy mine

Considering a trailer for a while now and when I first started looking, this small un-braked Ifor Williams, with roller shutter suited my needs.
