Does anyone know if you can open the rear doors on a PVC with such a rack in place? The rack I have does tilt back to about 45 degrees.

I would doubt it, the doors on my van just clear the top of the towball so as soon as you put anything on to it it would stop it. The hitch on my trailer was enough to stop it opening.

No I'm afraid not, the only one I'm aware of that moves out of the way is the below:

You're only bet would be an Atera Strada DL. If that won't clear them then nothing will.
Try these guys and they'll tell you, very helpful company.

It 'might' be possible...
In the course of my research apparently one of the Thule's can tilt to 70°, if that option is selected when you put it together (standard is about 45°).
Also - on some, the upright folds down, and becomes more or less level with the towball - so that might be a possibility (obviously not with bikes on).

Eg:

Perhaps not the best example, as the brackets protrude but it was only a quick Google. But it demonstrates what I mean.

Obviously, depends on why & how often you need access to back doors - but I assume tow ball mounted racks are easy enough to 'pop' on & off o_O.

Might this one have sufficient clearance + tilt to get the doors open?

You can't just pop on or off a rack with 2/3 bikes on it. Once it's attached it stays there.
Roofbox will be the ones to ask though. I did loads of research when I wanted one for my VW T5 and the Atera was the only one at the time that would clear the door.

We use the Atera strada on our IH, the rack slides backwards away from the van, gives enough access to open the "boot lid" on the rear panel, would certainly give you access. As stated, Roofbox co are very helpful.

The Atera Strada XL will work on an IH as they are meant to be used with 'boot' type lids as Bill's van has, not vertical doors as the op has, so although access may be possible assuming the bottom of the doors don't hit the bar it won't allow them to open more than around 18" max if that, enough to reach in but not open fully.

Once again, thanks to all for replies. I get the van on Friday, will see what's what, and probably try to source a different type of rack - but not one that hangs off the doors.:)

Also, on the roadpro site they have a couple of "swing away" carriers by van-swing, designed for vans, could be worth a look, bit pricy but effective.

Thanks all again. The swing types look interesting but are too expensive.
I've checked oiut the Atera Strada video, still expensive but a bit more in my price range. Looks like it would do the job.
Cheers,
