Hi Funsters
I have an 8m Auto=trail Delaware and am thinking of putting a tow-bar bike rack on it. I have seen a few in use on smaller vehicles and they seem to bounce around a lot. Are they safe? I will be carrying two standard bikes and have plenty of payload and axle weight to accommodate.
I will probably switch to a fixed rack on MH next year and keep the tow-bar rack for the car.
Any advice or experience greatly appreciated.

I had to re-I force the back of motorhome to take the stress.

I removed the rear seat cushions an bolted the top of the rack through square bar the full width.

I have a tow bar bike rack on the back of mine for 2 adults bike and 1child. Spend the extra 2 mins ensuring the fitting is correct over the towbar and it shouldn’t bounce around. I can honestly say mine never has.

We have a Thule bike rack high up on our Delaware. It had a sticker on it stating it was specially made for the vehicle to fit on the strengthened area. It is wider than a Fiamma rack.

How much force would a trailer put through the towbar? Probably a lot more than 50kg of bikes + rack bouncing about.

A mate has a 4 bike towball carrier for his pickup. When we going mountainbiking, he flies up the track to the car park with no sympathy for vehicle, bikes or passengers. They can take a lot of abuse.

Probably need some extra tie-down straps on the bikes to stop them flopping about.
