We've just altered our plans so what was going to be a month in France has changed to 2 weeks in Kent!
Please don't ask ! o_O

We start off over the August Bank holiday with a three day music festival at Faversham, after that we go to Canterbury for three days staying at the C and C Club there. From there we are hoping for suggestions, we don't know the area at all other than the M2 and Channel tunnel
We would like a bit of seaside, the quaint bits of the garden of England ( darling buds of May stuff ) and anything historical / cultural.
We are hoping you Funsters can help us out a little (y)

Thanks Jez and Lin

So much to suggest. Dover castle and the tunnels worth a look, drive along the coastline from Folkestone through to Hythe, then Dymchurch, at the Sainsburys in New Romney turn left down the avenue and right at the bottom following the road along to the pilot at Dungeness, great fish and chips.
Just touching into East Sussex is the cinque port town of Rye then back inland towards Tenterden, again a cinque port with lovely tree lined avenue with shops and cafes. Sissinghurst castle and biddenden cider is not far from Tenterden as is Headcorn which truly is the Weald of Kent and darling buds of may area.

Not to rub salt into a wound but driving along the coast you'll more than likely be able to wave at France as it's that close lol.

In fact if you park up at the National Trust White Cliff car park above Dover Harbour on a clear day, you can sit and watch the ferries leaving Dover port and follow them all the way into Calais.

Agree with Shawn’s recommendations of pointing you in the direction of Hythe, Dymchurch, Dungeness, Rye, and inland to the Tenterden area. We have lived in the area for many years and if you are looking to book a site after staying at Canterbury our first choice would be the Caravan and Motorhome Club site called Daleacres near Hythe. This site is within easy reach of some nice beaches (for your bit of seaside) and lots of historical / cultural / others just a short drive away. Let me know if of interest and I will post you up a list of places to visit.

Dave.

Dungeness for atmosphere (the Pilot Inn for stopover) and Europe's only 'desert'.

Whitstable for beautiful harbour town with a whole street of beautiful independent shops. I know you're not a fan of 'Spoons' Jez, but the converted cinema is just amazing!

Broadstairs for beautiful old fashioned seaside town and all things Dickens.

Rye for quaint old streets and a religious relic that scared the living daylights out of me.... and the Brocante shops on the quay.

Sandwich for quiet wanders through its streets and a stopover in the car park outside of Steph and Dom's place.

I did a thread on our trip last December. We absolutely fell in love with the county!

Have fun wherever you go. (y)

If you have your bus passes try the buses from Canterbury a large selection covers a lot of Kent. If you don't need electricity try the park and ride
