Well here we are camped in a small lay-by with about 8 other vans at the top of a mountain just past MONT DORE waiting in anticipation for the tour to pass us about 4pm tomorrow. Look out for our old Hymer it's the one with a blue canoe on the roof. Wish we had bought a MHF flag!!!!!!!

I look at every motorhome that comes into shot. I watch those as much as the cyclists (How boring am I ) So were bound t see you:Smile: The ingenuity of some of the motorhomers that follow Le Tour when getting parked up never ceases to amaze me especially on the mountain stages:Eeek:

Its on my to do list, I would love to follow the tour, I know people say you have to be holed up weeks in advance, but that's just not true I know people who have followed the tour, yes in small/tiny motorhomes, but I have one of those again:Smile:

We were at an aire at Maruiel ser ray last year when the tour de france was having a stop at Epernay, what a fantastic atmosphere, the crowd was massive and there are all the coaches which follow.

I was cycling from the south of Spain to the north of France many years ago.
I turned out of a tiny side road and found myself taking part in the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain cycle race).

The crowds cheered as I passed on my touring bike, all laden with panniers, tent and sleeping bag, people offering me water bottles and chocolate bars.

The peloton went past at high speed and then two Spanish motorcycle cops gave me a blue-light escort to the nearby campsite and saluted as I turned off the road.

sorry watched and watched but they showed very few roofs of the motorhomes, could see them all parked along the route where space allowed even in fields, did see what i thought was blue on a roof but it was on the climb before the last one, but just incase it was the third van along from one end of a layby

Tour de france-look out for us- on tv

Well! perhaps you might spot us on T.V. on tuesday, as the tour passes the end of our road (I shall be wearing a pink hat) the tour is coming up from Villefranche de Rouergue we will be at Solville just before Rieuperoux, the local Marie is making a day of it with drinks and ice creams, sounds nice, hope it does not rain, last time it passed this way (passing our front gate) it rained so hard the dye came out of the flag our friend was waving and ruined her shoes.:Smile: Bambi 2

Tour de france-look out for us- on tv

What a great day yesterday, we went to the top of the road where we live to see the tour and could not believe the amount of people there, the atmosphere was great, the weather was hot, very exciting when the caravan went through chucking out gifts then the race went by it was such a spectacle! well worth the wait! ::bigsmile: the entertainment put on by the mayor of Solville (not far from Villefranche de Rouergue) was good with occitain dancers and very old agricultural machinery on show. not one english motor home there, shame!
