We were on that same site last year and was given a designated pitch number, I reluctantly paid the rip off sum of nearly 30 nicka for one night and set off to go find my pitch, however when we got there it was a little crowded but there was lots of empty spaces elewhere so we just moved .... tearing up the wet grass in the process...i didnt mention to them i had moved but i always prefer it when you can go wonder around an pick your own pitch then pay ..that was the last camp site we stopped at and to be honest hope its the last

@Howard H , the most important thing is to enjoy your evening, or at least make the most of it

How about you pull a couple of chairs up outside the wardens caravan and watch their TV :LOL:

seriously we are all quick to tell others what to do, I am fuming for you, hopefully they will be feeling my anger from here, how about tomorrow when you go to pay for the launch, bit like you have every right to when paying for a meal where you get poor service, tell them you are unhappy with how they dealt with your request to move today and that you do not intend to pay the final amount due, following on with you will be writing to HO to explain why

I find cash in my pocket in lieu of poor service even if only a couple of £'s makes feel better

But for now have another glass of your preference and breath, and so will I :)
Spot on David and its beginning to wind me up now so I have took your advice cracked opened a bottle of captain Morgan's and I am going to chill and relax ,thanks mate

Booked in to New Mills marina it's a 3C certified site, told them it was an RV, no problem says he. Just got to join the 3C's :( worth it though, to see the daughter.
Manchester are missing a trick here, must be many people who would use an aire in the city.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
This same site is the only place that we've ever encountered difficulties with a site warden & that's in over 30 years of caravanning/motorhoming. I wouldn't have minded if we'd been out of order but we'd done nothing wrong. Its a real shame because the site has wonderful views of Derwentwater & Catbells.

Yup, and am I going to give the CCC site at LUSS in Scotland one hell of a cr@p review when I get home.
Never been to such a run down expensive site.

Don't forget each site has a review page

Had a problem there before David died in 2012... Even though we had booked a pitch to be by the disabled toilet block they parked us as far away as possible when I complained they said you can drive up to the toilet block. I asked why we couldn't have one of the empty pitches nearer they said "but you are only here for 3 nights" we left after 2 and I phoned head office as soon as we got home they promised to look into it as they could see we had said disabled on the booking form and they refunded our pitch fees .....I have never been back and didn't renew membership.

do we think the site is hard to manage, or the warden has been there for too many years

I really hope the clubs get to read and take note of these threads

Our son is in Stockport and the nearest site is now pretty run down with awful access..... last time we stayed at The Burrs (CC site) near Bury. We've also stayed at a CL near Knutsford which was fun as it is part of a private nature reserve and wildlife hospital.

Not sure what we will do in future .......

David I know you are right but as I get older I feel I want to make a big thing of it and I know I should but sometimes times it's easier to to let things go ,wrong I know but easier but I will see them tomorrow to pay for a canoe launching and I am bound to say something
Why do you have to pay to launch a canoe???? You just plop it in the water, not like a motor boat etc where you need a ramp ... I am obviously missing something here!

I know but the same two wardens who could not be bothered to let me change pitch asked me if we where going to use the lake and being honest told them yes with my canoe, they where very quick to inform me I had to pay to use the lake and they would be checking as they do with everyone that I had ,something to do with the local council vi believe.

I would like to think that the clubs are members of these forums but somehow I doubt they would be looking at motorhome fun .Roy

They don't own the bloody lake, if you launched from the roadside nobody would charge you.

Hang on, you're in the Lakes, one of the most beautiful places in the UK and you want to watch telly? I think I am missing something here.

Edit maybe it's not me that is missing something.
If that is what they want to do then that is up to them.
We know the Lake District pretty well & after a day roaming about and entertaining our dogs we like to chill out with our feet up, the view & the TV.

Loads of launching sites just up the lane by the park .free ....cant understand what's happening at this site ,I have been there a few times now and always been looked after well ,even asked if I wanted a great view or prefer to be nearer town and offered several pitches to choose from ..sad that its gone the way of some of the others, these club sites really have to get their acts together..but I suppose they will rest on their laurels whilst the people still come ...

It doesnt' have anything to do with the Council AFAIK, I've just had a look at the Lake District pdf about the lakes (whoever created the pdf wants shooting as they haven't even bothered to make half of it readable without standing on your head!) and the bit about launching makes no mention of the council but private land owners - so they are taking the pee and charging just to rip off those staying at the site! There's usually always a launch fee, can be up to a tenner for each kayak on some lakes. Some charge a fairer few squids. If you're lucky can put in somewhere quiet and unmanned, but you usually get spotted on the water :(

Thank you David I was more than cross at the time as I had stated on our booking for form that my late husband was seriously ill and was not able to walk any distance I even said it when we checked in ..."just follow my wife on the bike he said she will show you your pitch" ...I couldn't believe it when she waved us into a pitch at the bottom of the site when Imtried to explain to her she just shrugged her shoulders and said "you will have to drive up to the shower block"
It made matters worse when we saw empty pitches at the top of the site lying unused the 2 nights we were there.

Enlighten me people.

I rarely use pukka sites, mostly certificated ones and aires.

What is the usual way you get to your pitch on CC and C&CC sites - choose where you want to pitch or be allocated one? If it's allocation - why? If pitches can't be reserved, which I hear is the case, why not first come first to choose?
Is the same system used on all Club sites or is it left to the friendly warders to decide if it's allocation or choice?
I don't believe I'd be very happy to be told to "park there" - in fact I'd be inclined to ignore that "instruction" and find a pitch that suits me.

Maybe that's why I don't visit such formal and regulated places.

The cc usually give you choice of any pitches that are vacant, the cc&c escort you to your allocated pitch.
