With the higher prices for derv in France we intend to fill up before leaving the U.K. next week.

I know that there is a shopping centre just off the M20 close to the Channel Tunnel that has a large supermarket.

Has anyone used this?

Is there a filling station?

What MWay Jct number is it?

Thanks, in anticipation!:giggle:

Is there that much in it? Last time we went even with the higher price and exchange rate the supermarkets were little different to the uk. Just checked Auchan calais and Carrefour are 1.425 euro=£1.225 per litre whats it near you?. There is a Tesco near the tunnel we have used which has a petrol station just looked seems about 2 to 3 p a litre less than France

What is the price then? We thought it would be cheaper here in France. We filled up yesterday at €1.42.3, which equates to £1.22 using our bank rate of €1.16 to the £, at Auchan supermarket.

Spain was between €1.20 and €1.25.

Obviously you can pay a lot more on motorways services, but we tend not to do this unless we are VERY desperate.

If we are filling up before we cross we tend to pop into Sainsburys at Ashford https://stores.sainsburys.co.uk/0059/bybrook
Only did this when the French were striking though as the price has always still been cheaper than the uk even as it has crept up.
I tend to fill up at Auchan as they have been giving 10euro of a 100euro shop vouchers on our recent visits.

Average price in France is shown as €1.54. Belgium, where we are heading, even higher.

I know it can be bought cheaper at supermarkets but we are arriving in France late evening and just want to head straight off. Plenty of time to fill up en route to Tunnel so it’s more convenient as well as cheaper.

Here's a useful French government site that shows the price of fuel through out France. The Carrefour at Cite Europe has diesel at €1.425 today. With current exchange rate that's about £1.23 which is cheaper than at most fuel pumps here in the SE England. Carrefour is also self service, pay with card so open 24/7.

Always fill up before getting on the ferry - either way

Just want to get off the ferry and go, not having to think about filling up

I just avoid filling on motorways:)

Tesco is at Jct 12 on the M20. Tunnel 11A next one from the West or one before from the East.(y)(y) We use it all the time for fuel and last bit shopping as we tend to cross Sat Evening so no shops open on Sunday available.

I think motorway service areas are that sort of price. We have been paying between €1.35 and €1.42 for the last couple of weeks in France and €1.20 in Northern Spain.

Tesco off Jct10 for us.
Clubcard points, plus I'd rather give VAT/Fuel duty to British Exchequer ;)

We always top up after the shuttle at Coquelles, get our fresh baguette and croissants as well.

I've had it as low as €1.01 in spain and only once paid more than €1.14.

France was a bit grim but didn't hang around there long

If there was a huge difference in price I could understand your thinking but for a few quid (possibly saved )on a long trip............really, life is too short.

Did you read post #5?

If you “don’t understand my thinking” so be it!

There is also the issue of Tesco points for the Tunnel, not a deal breaker but a useful addition.

Generally have been paying €1.18 to €1.23, the €1.11 was a nice surprise.
I must be spoilt. :LOL:Never occurs to me that it is dearer elsewhere until I have to pay it.o_Oquite a few around here at 1,11€ or less & passed 1,06 in alicante the other day. I can also fall back on mercadon/aldi's girasol @96c:)

I can understand the convenience factor but you obviously need reminding that you were also concerned about the price of fuel. If you read my post again you will see that is what I am addressing.

If you do a google search you will see it is illegal to carry fuel in cans both in France and on the ferries.

It is also illegal ,apparently ,to use any type of cooking oil, bio, etc; even if a foreigner according to sources on a UK car forum?
i'm fortunate that if I carry any 'fuel' it is in the containers that aldi/lidl's/add any supermarket you want , supply it in .

No I don’t need reminding, thank you.

Please re-read your own posts and see if you can detect a little “attitude “ in them.

If not, please don’t bother to reply.

Tesco entering Dover on the A2,,BUSBY.

There is a Tesco at Ashford, Junction 10 for the Hospitial turning , go onto the Old A20 for 150 yards then a roundabout for Tesco. To get to Eurotunnel go back to the M20 or carry on down the old road, M20 is better though. Sainsbury at Folkestone is at the last Folkestone turning and a bit of jigging around to get to them. Prices about 128p for diesel so nothing in it really the Cite prices are probably still cheaper. I use £1 = 1 Euro as conversion but UK is credit card handy without charges if any on your bank.

Really don't understand why motorhomers worry about the price of fuel.........

..................most do so few miles anyway

I'd guess most pay more for tax and insurance in a year than for fuel...............

My van does 30mpg and I do around 15000 mile a year, if I had a van that did 25mpg I’ll spend £581 more in fuel a year at £1.28 a litre

That would pay for 6 weeks all in at a site in Spain for the winter.... for me fuel consumption is a no brainier.... just because I can buy a 50k Motorhome doesn’t mean I want to burn the rest of my money....

Thanks Busby, but we will be approaching the Tunnel from the North.

Your recommendation is filed for next time we use the ferries, as we do on occasion.(y)
