Memory foam mattress, just looked on line and I'm blinded by science, what's the best they seem to go from 2.5 cm to 7.5cm. There's also down toppers! Advice please

2.5 worked for us
Thick enough for comfort but thin enough to fold away
Mrs C made a cover by folding a king size sheet in half and stitching up one side and end (like a sleeping bag)

We bought our m/foam topper from dunelm mills. Wasn't cheap but is excellent. Have got a fixed bed so just leave it on so storage isn't a problem for us.

In France I had quite thin foam mattresses on all the guest beds and they were so comfortable. I think they were only about 6 cms deep.
I've bought a foam over springs mattress for my house --- too soft, it's going in spare room.
Toppers---don't buy Ikea. Slept on one in Scotland, horrendous back ache.

Why not try some out in a bed shop and get some idea of firmness you need?
