Hi all you experienced bikers, I’m a middle aged, short plump lass who last went on the back of a bike in the 80’s.... (it was a Kawasaki Z1100 and the bloke riding it kept falling asleep on our way back from the pub.....) I’m a nervous passenger..

Mr Mousy has just taken early retirement and we’ve been having a ball in Portugal for 2 months, we have electric cycles and I’m happy on a bike although my balance isn’t 100% due to my M S.

We are now thinking of getting a small bike to enable us to explore further afield. ...

Am I too fat/old to sit on the back of one of these?

Any advice or are we being silly?

 I’m built for comfort not speed!

5’5” and the just the wrong side of 12 stone. :(
Not fat then just a ‘comfortable size’(y)

Don’t know how much power a little monkey bike like that would have two up?
Would think a scooter would be better for pottering around.

And you think that’s fat

Get yourself some black one piece leathers they’re sliming to the eye.
Well that’s what I tell myself :)

Seriously get yourself on the back and enjoy, fat you are not (y)

No, no and no :)
I am 50+ and North of 17 stone, Mrs Vans is a slim lady and less than 7 stone. We fit on a Honda Grom just fine, had the seat bolstered up a bit for more comfort and looking at the pic of the monkey bike our seat is longer.. go for it matey. We have just come back from a ride around the Cornish coast and parked in places where no car could. Can't beat a bike.

It might be worth looking at the Honda MSX125 (Known as the Grom)

A little bigger & possibly more comfortable

I beat you in both counts - shorter and heavier and we manage nicely on our 125cc PCX. I would suggest a scooter being an 'easier to get on with option' if Martin is not a past biker.

You can have a go on ours at Lymington if you want and try it in the garage for size.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
We once burnt out the engine on a scooter we hired in Crete . We were both a lot younger and slimmer , than we are now 27 , years ago.
We blamed it on the hills and heat and going long journeys on it.
I’d say go for it . But I’d make sure that it’s powerful enough . The scooter we went twos up on couldn’t cope going up hill any distance.

Well yes it does need a bit of grunt. Ours has take us up Mount Vesuvius, the top of the Espuna, a tour of Meteoron in Greece and many other mountains I cannot remember.

I would suggest Honda Scooter , depending on room good choice. but SH300 very popular for 2 up comfort . I have a Burgman 400 but that's getting too big for garage carry .

@Armytwowheels

I haven't had a motorbike before. I'm doing my CBT on the 8th August and my theory on the 16th. When I have done the CBT I will arrange the bike training for whatever test I need to take so I can take @Mousy on the back. Thank you for the offer of a go on your scooter ~ maybe you could give Dawn a ride as a passenger just to make sure the reality is as appealing as the idea.

Mr Mousy

We have the SH 125 Honda which is a slightly different style to the PCX, you can have a look at that at Lymington to make a comparison.

Dawn

Of course you are not too fat, it's the bloke on the font taking all the seat;) but I would forget the monkey bike as you want something more practical with a bit of storage for helmets when you get there and a bit of shopping on the way back.

Thanks Martin.

I have an open mind on the scooter / bike type Dawn however loves the style of the Msx125 or new Honda Monkey bike.

Dawn might like the style of the monkey bike but she won't like carrying the helmets round all day. Get something with some storage capacity and then you will get the full benefit of the bike.

Can't they just be chained to the bike or railings?

I deliberated long and hard over my/our choice of motorised transport, but storage and shopping practically had to win over style, yes a SH 300 would be great but It would be more of a squeeze in the garage especially with the "top box" on and it would be too fast to ride in lightweight clothing, I know I know we shouldn't;)

Dawn if you want a ride on Mikes bike at Lymington he will take you out on it. Try before you buy.
