As a 82 year old I struggle with technological, could some one tell me our to update my Tom Tom sat nav fitted in a bessicar hi line 412.
Thank you Geoff

I have tomtom but by no means an expert. I do know there is various tomtoms. Does it have a memory card inserted in display.... ???

Thanks for replying, I am not sure if it has a sd card.

is the tomtom standalone - a separate unit attached to a sucker on the windscreen (say) or is it part of the radio, etc, head unit?

Andy thanks for your response it is part of the radio etc screen built in.

In that case I am pretty sure it will have a card inserted into unit around screen.
Edit.. sometimes not that obvious

My unit is the carimat system.

Ok, Geoff. In that case, you’ll probably need to use a USB stick with the update on it. Do you know the model number of the tomtom.......there may be some info in the radio, etc. documentation/instructions. Let me know and I’ll see if I can find out how to update the maps.....?
Cheers!
Andy

To be honest, Geoff, I don’t bother using the ‘vans built-in sat nav as it was so out of date when we bought the van, and the location of the screen is not where I would like it to be......so we bought a stand-alone unit which updates over Wi-fi. Have you considered doing that, or are you happy with the tomtom you have?
Andy

Only just bought the camper so really not tried the inbuilt.
Might be a good idea for me to get the window one, thanks for advice Andy it is appreciated

I have a stand alone Tom Tom with lifetime free updates and so far so good. It cost about £110

Depending on the model (van) it could even have the sim card in the middle of the dash like my Renault. However, do check if you have lifetime updates for free, they can be quite expensive otherwise. For a new update you could buy a new Chinese sat-nav which several people on here have raved about.
If you have a card and computer, it is a very simple job updating them. Just plug the card into a card reader (if you have one, or buy a cheap one. The card should be recognised and instructions follow. This download can take some time. Good luck!
