Very comprehensive reply , thank you very muchThis appears to be exactly the same software as the TomTom Go phone app. I had it plugged into my Android Auto radio so I had a nice big 9" screen in the dash. I opted to help them beta test the vehicle dimensions feature. My opinion was that TomTom Go generally is a bit 'meh'. Guidance wasn't always that clear. E.g. turning off the M1 northbound for the M6 and it tells you to head towards Lichfield!? And I found mistakes in the mapping for vehicle width restrictions.
Looks like the beta test has now ended, so I no longer get is as part of the £20 per year 'car' subscription. They now want £100 per year to enable 'lorry' vehicle dimension features. For me, that's not worth it. It's rare that width restrictions make a difference to navigation. And if I can't trust the mapping anyway, I don't see the point.
So you could use your phone with the TomTom Go app. And then use the Android Auto/Apple Carplay feature of your radio. The app software appears to be identical to the software in the dedicated Go units now. Downside is you have to pay for a new subscription.I use a Tom Tom Go which holds lots of my historical camping info throughout Europe so I tend not to use the in vehicle systems.
My new 2022 Ducatto does not have a dedicated sat nav installed and is aimed at using Apple or Android car play, which I don’t use.
So I now use a small sheet of rigid Perspex, bought on eBay, and clip it in the dash mounted tablet holder. The standard Tom Tom mount sticks very nicely to the shiny surface without the need for one of the discs stuck to it. I’ve found it excellent & brings the sat nav slightly higher for my eyeline than the Uconect7 system
Exactly what I've done. SatNav in the ideal position.I use a Tom Tom Go which holds lots of my historical camping info throughout Europe so I tend not to use the in vehicle systems.

You have to login. So I suspect it's the same, so should share the same way.Does the app versions give you access to all your places routes and favourites etc from your account or do you have to start afresh again?
Those internal SIMs cost money to keep connected and run data through. With the dedicated units, do you get live traffic data for free, or does that require a subscription?I think the faster interface would be good however I"m not sure that being dependent on a smartphone connection as opposed to the internal SIM card is a top forward.
The always connected device get traffic and speed camera information via the built in sim but others have to be connected to a smartfone. Iv'e had my Tomtom Go Camper for over a year since last August so I think I might've to pay for the traffic data in future as I think it came with 2 months free. Those internal SIMs cost money to keep connected and run data through. With the increasing amount of data that is being used, I suspect it looks more economical to TomTom to get the user to use their smartphone's data instead.
