Hi all,
i,m sure this topic has been covered umpteen times but just wanted a bit of clarification.
I am looking to buy a toll tag and was about to buy the emovis tag, mainly cos they are based in the uk.
unfortunately they only work on vehicles up to 3.5 ton and mine is 3650.
I contacted emovis and they said it would not work as the van is weighed as it goes through the toll.
I had no idea this was the case.
can anyone advise me on which toll tag to buy for my van.
I am less than 3m in height and just under 8m long and weigh 3650 ( the van not me).
Any help is always much appreciated, thanks.

There currently isn’t a toll tag for Motorhomes in France over 3m high or over 3500kg
However I recently read an article which says that ADAC is hoping to offer one in the future

I'm sure some one will come along with more knowledge than I.

A friend had a 3.8T van and last year borrowed a tag off his mate who had a 3.5T van. My mate used it for 6 weeks in France and has not had any comeback.

However, the rules are up to 3.5T.

Did not know that.
We have had one for years.
Would/does it work but not legally??

While on this subject, has anyone had to change the battery in their Bip&Go tag? Ours was used last Autumn for the first time and we are off again next month.

Apparently the woman at emovis said I would be allowed through the toll but at the next exit toll I would be stopped and issued with a potentially huge fine for incorrect use of the tag?

We have had a class two tag for years. we are 3metres and 4250kg and we have no problems, if we are challenged we just reply "camping car" and they let us through.. never had to pay class 3 as yet ( but have i just jinked that)

Just back from France last week used a few tolls with the tag, ours is a Rapido AClass 7.4m up plated to 4t. No problem going through with the emovis tag all charged at class 2.

My advice from Tolltickets was this :

We have just checked your vehicle details and have found that unfortunately the TIS-PL for France is not appropriate for your vehicle.
The measurement at the French toll stations is primarily optical. The weight only plays a role if it exceeds 1t (from 4.5t). Superstructures are also not included. With our toll boxes for France only the towing vehicle is relevant.
At the toll station, the vehicle is measured and classified. Depending on the classification, the truck system (TIS-PL) or the car system (Liber-t) is activated.
If a car box is expected and there is a truck box in the vehicle, then unfortunately the barrier at the toll station does not open because the wrong system is active. This has been confirmed to us by the French toll certification authority.

So Liber-t up to 4.5t is fine and will avoid confusion at the toll barrier is the way I read it.

Had one on our 2.95m high 4.250Tonne 7.9m long motorhome
in 2019 our last visit we found we started to trip class 3 but usually the ""Je suis un Camping Car "worked but as we got closer to the docks I ended up having to argue the height being sub 3m
the last toll booth refused totally to let me through without paying the class 3 toll in cash refused all my cards in the machine

We've sent the tag back and plan to only use non toll roads in future

We have used the TAG for many years, first SANEF, now eMovis.

We have switched the TAG between our motorhomes as we have changed them, some over 3500kgs and some under.

We have also switched it between our motorhomes and our cars without encountering any problems.

I came all the way through last week 3.7 and was fine...didnt miss a beep.
What van do you have, and has it been up plated at all

I have used Sanef tag in France for years in different vans all over 3.5t one was 5t no problems at all. The tolls measure height not weight I think, it is one of the best things I got to travel through France especially when on my own.

You have to return your tag and order a replacement if the battery is low but it will usually tell you online when you need to change them. I. Have had them for years and it only takes a few days to switch over. Check your account online

Hi. Travelled through France to Northern Spain last September. 7.5m Fiat Bessacarr, 4050 kgs. We have the Emovis toll tag and no issues at all. Travelled all the way on toll roads and all opened without issue, even the “quick approach” ones. I will be looking for a one this year that includes Spain as we are travelling all the way to Benidorm in September.

If you apply for the VIA-T tag that covers Spain and Portugal

I have never seen a French toll station that weighs the vehicle. They only measure the height automatically and some will count the axles. We are 4.5t but only 2.8m high and have 2 axles. In France we always register as Class 2 at all the toll stations.

How long do the batteries last?
We have had ours since 2018, but it hasn't been used since Sept 2019.
Hope to use it again this summer.

Never had an issue at the auto toll booths with a Liber T even in a motorhome with a height of 3.03m.

Thanks to all of you that replied to my query.
I am gonna go to a local weighbridge for a bit of accuracy but you have convinced me at under 3m and weighing 3650 kg I will be ok with the emovis tag, cheers

We got ours in April 2018 for both France and Spain/Portugal. When I checked our account on their website this morning the state of batteries for both Tags were shown as "nearly expiry". So I spoke to them by phone and it is a simple process to change on their website. Just order another Tag on their website, which will cost £20 deposit plus £5 postage. Once it arrives just go onto the website again and follow the process to return the expired Tag. Then pop the old Tag into the return envelope they provided with your new tag and post it. Once they receive it they will give you a £20 refund for the deposit you originally paid for the old tag.

AFAIK you can't change the battery, you send it back and get a replacement. The emovis account tells you the battery status I think - I just had to replace the French one and get a Spanish Bip and go.

So glad I came across this thread. I'm pretty new to the site, and we're going to France in June for the first time in our MH.
What is the benefit of having a toll tag as opposed to just paying cash at the tolls?

You don't have to get out to pay.
You get the bill when you get home!😊😊

Not sitting on the wrong side of the van at Toll Booths, no tickets to collect or pay as you get the bill afterwards.

Stupid question, but can you pay the tolls with your credit card or is it cash only?
