Hi we have a 3.5 ton motorhome with a 385 payload and just over 3 meters high, according to the toll road charges this comes into a category 3. Do they know what you are or do most motorhomes this size go through as a 2.
Hope that made sense

I'd say a lot if us go through as class 2. A lot of us use sanef tags too .. which speeds it all up.
Officially .. class 3
Practically .. class 2

I've always been charged as class 2, except on the toll around Bordeaux where I miraculously changed to class 3. I challenged it and the French supervisor grudgingly refunded me but said if I ever came back on the road again then I would be class 3.

I assume you are referring to France?

As I understand, vehicles are automatically weighed and height sensors are also installed at the toll booths.

From your description, you should be OK for class 2 regarding weight, but would trip the toll to class 3 because your van is over 3 metres tall.

However, I believe normal practice in such circumstances is to press the call button and say 'camping-car'! And with luck, the toll will be re-calculated at class 2 rate.

Mine is 4250kg. Just over 3mtrs ish.... Always paid class when i have used a toll rd..

Only time i paid more was on an unmanned booth years ago and before i knew about pressing the button and telling them i was a "camping car" and not a truck..

Getting better month by month.
Only time I have been down classed to a 2 was on a manned booth. Every other time it is a 3. Tried pressing the help button and all we got was an auto reply on how to use and a lot of beeping behind. Sanef Tags are only for those vehicles below 3 meters in hight. If you want tags, then use their sister site Eurotoll.

First moho 11/2013, second 11/2014 current from 09/2019.
Just come back from France. We are 4250kg, just over 3m high we use a tag. I have just checked our online account and we were always charged class 2.

Are you sure about that?

Many MH that should be a maximum of 3500kg are often overweight and still go through as Classe 2.

Or take advantage of the offer on a recent thread for a sanef tag.. you're close enough to class 2 for it to work just fine.
Your choice :)

You should be charged class 2 but as above, if they try to charge as class 3, press the button and you should get charged as class 2.
Our Autosleeper, 3.7 tonnes and just over 3 m high was always charged as class 2, our 7.5 tonne Winnebago, 3.25m high was charged class 3 except at a manned booth(Pont De Normandie) where it was class 2, a few times when I queried the charge at an auto booth, we were changed to class 2, once they were adamant I was class 3 and once we got through as a motorbike ( class 1)
You never know, always worth trying.

I'm pretty certain vehicles are not weighed at French toll booths, otherwise we'd never have got through as Classe 2 in our old vehicle.

There's a bit of leeway on height, depending on what the roof looks like - some have mentioned satellite domes protruding above 3m as a possible issue. For a flat roof it's not 3m exact, that's for sure.

Let the tyres down :)

Cheaper to take the ferry unless you are exploring France, in which case I avoid the toll roads and take my time

Living the dream.
That must be quite a challenge when the vehicle is travelling at 30 kph.
It's in use now in the uk, not only that they weigh each axle individually @60mph plus. I have seen it in action, big brother is out there friends

Can you please quote the tolerance for 44t and how it relates to under 5t.

Also are these machines positioned on all 3 lanes?

On automatic tolls we always get charged class 3 ( 3500 and 3.2) so I can press the button and in my bestest French I politely say class 2 Monsieur and the majority of the time a class 2 ticket arrives. Hasn't always worked...depends on the mood of the man on the other end I think
