Hi, we are having a bit of a debate. Some friends are saying they have been told that the toilet flush tanks on caravans and motor homes are open tanks, not sealed. They have been told never to leave water in one as it leaks out the top and lands on the floor. I don’t understand how this could be. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

Unlike caravans most motorhomes do not have a separate flush tank. It is a pumped flush from the fresh water tank.

Plenty of older MH have separate flush tanks. Perhaps it is a problem for some fitted with a pedestal toilet. We have one in a caravan and the hand book recommends draining before travelling but we have travelled with it about half full without problems.

My 2006 van has a separate flush tank and a pedestal loo. I always keep it full and never had a problem.

My VW Crafter camper van had a separate tank. The motorhome takes is straight from the fresh tank.
