Our toilet flush flow has turned into a dribble , I can hear the pump working but it just reaches the bowl . We do not have a separate flush tank but I have found if I run the hot water tap it takes about 30 seconds before it flows , once this happens the toilet flow is good for a little while then reverts back to dribble. It suggests air in the system but why is it not clearing after the 30 second delay.

If you have a twin pump, one half of it may have gone down so the other half is only working 50. %. This happened to ours.

Air being drawn in on the intake side of the pump?

The pump has an NRV (non return valve) , it stops the water draining back to the tank, the symptoms you describe would suggest that it is either partially blocked or stuck open, it is generally on outlet of the pump, or very close to the pump on the discharge line.

Remove and clean using vinegar to dissolve the limescale.

Another potential problem is the toilet flush solenoid valve, they can also get blocked with limescale.. it is fitted under the toilet. Thetford have a maintenance video on how to remove and clean.. search the support pages.

That then leaves the pump, which, as has been suggested, may also have a problem, and need replacing.

They come in two varieties, with and without the NRV.. Leisureshopdirect sell both , I've always found their prices very keen.

NB>> the above assumes you have a submersible pump..

If you have positive displacement Shurflo, the pump diaphragm may be ruptured and need replacing .. you can buy service kits from a dealer.

Also check the pump filter bowl for cracks.. it may have frost damage.. this will allow the pump to suck in air.

Last but not least.. if you do change the submersible pump, be careful to note the polarity.. they run both ways, but wrong way round will reduce the flow considerably..

On Hymers (and possibly on other German marques ) the pump supply cable has Blue as Positive , Brown is Negative.. The pump cable: Brown is Positive and Blue is Negative.. !

Very similar to what we had. In the end a new Flojet pump solved it.
