Well the HYMER pig certainly performed to my low expectations of it today !
Exited van and left dogs inside while doing a few jobs outside, go to open main habitation door (comfort )
Well it opens a bit then jams on catches , panic as realised no windows were open and the other door was locked !
Bit of shaking and wiggling and luckily the door opened but it turns out the spring must be broken on the top catch !
Bet the pile of crap door will turn out to be a HARTAL ?
Christmas is going to be fun as bet the dealers won’t have the parts .

Elastic bands are your friends !

Why not unlock the drivers door ?

I have now but It was locked at the time !
It’s a rubbish way in and out for our 3 weeks away for Xmas

Keys left inside ?

I'll take that awful Hymer pig off your hands for a very reasonable sum, save you the stress of owning it.
I think all it needs is some love and tender care and it will perform beyond your wildest dreams.
We all need some love after all x:-)

Of course !
Luckily the door did open.
Should have known better as we had trouble with a Hartal door on a Swift

Keys inside for me a no no , must carry out a risk assessment and the result could well be keep them in your pocket :xwink:

BTW as before my Hymer is brilliant (y)

You need a Laika .. They make their own doors ..

thought they didnt have drivers doors

Foreign rubbish, you need an Elddis

Brilliant British manufacture if you can put up with a few bits falling off such as skylight surrounds, cupboard doors, microwave cupboards, bed frames etc. Then there's the slight problem of the roof collapsing, bed cushions compressing, brake problems and nails sticking out just where you can catch your fingers on them. I gather once that lot is sorted it will be good to go for another six months.

Nothing like that at all on our 3 year old elddis, it’s been very good:xThumb:

Strewth that sounds horrible. Ours is great

Don't blame the Brits. Elddis is American crap now :D

Twas a caravan, only 6 months old, but made in the same factory in the same way. Eventually got our money back after a log fight with a cowboy dealer. Now waiting for the delivery of a new Benimar. (After 4 crappy new British caravans of different makes, not going down the British route again!) Sadly just been told that next weeks delivery has been put back to the new year.

Was German crap when I bought it. From what I've seen in the US, the standard of manufacture there is little better than the UK.

Benimar eh?? Nice vans but make sure you give it a good wash when you get it:xThumb:

Luckily for manufacturers most of their customers are happy with the poor quality and I am pleased that you like yours .:xThumb:
One example of people’s low expectations is our friends 2013 Hymer , his fridge door is shiny like ours which is 2018 but our fridge door catches and scratches the door surface when open just as his does .
He isn’t worried he thinks it’s ok ?
I think it’s appalling and it annoys the hell out of me (n)

Both habitation door springs broken on my Hymer, and the fly screen has to be removed to adjust the locking bars. Double glazing has failed in most of the cab windows (just after the warranty ran out). Shower door rail replaced now failing again. BUT it doesn't leak unlike ALL the British built vans I've had.

Need a sad button :xdoh::(:xsad::xrofl:
How old is the van

I do not understand the OP's problem with partially open door, as our N+B Arto just has hinges a latch and a lock.

But on the subject of keys, I keep a set of house keys in the LH trouser pocket, a set of MH keys in the RH one and Basia carries a spare Hab door key in her wallet and never leaves it in the MH [We only have the Hab door] I am not telling you where the spare engine/alarm keys are.

From bachelor days I have always had the habit of brushing my pockets to check for keys before closing the front door.

Geoff

turns out the spring must be broken on the top catch !QUOTE]

Dealers will try and sell you the whole latch assembly for about £100, best option is to make your own replacement springs using spring steel wire from EBay, you may also want to get replacement 'Star' locking washers that fit on the spring center shaft.
I have replaced both top and bottom springs on my Rapido / Hartal door and now carry the steel wire if more are needed.
Cheers

Our fridge door and everything else works fine, if it did not I would not be happy.
I don’t have low expectations and I’m sure that you could spend a small fortune on a top model and still have problems, that’s life :)

I intend to though I'm hoping it travels in one of the lower car decks. Funny thing is, it will be travelling all the way back using the same ferry and past the actual factory in February, so may need more than one good wash.

At least it won't have been sat in some storage yard for months.

Hope it’s a better experience than the caravan, enjoy:xThumb:
