We’ve not had much 4G around parts of Germany so this is more a retrospective ...

After much dithering, because I really wanted to go back to France (sorry Chris), and several weekends away in our newish (December 2018) Globecar Campscout, we made our way from South Ayrshire to Hull for the overnight ferry.
What claimed to be a 4 hour trip on the AA route planner turned into an anxious

marathon 7 hour trek, nose to tail, stop start, on the A66 and through Hull city centre.
We must have been one of the last vehicles on the ferry arriving 4 minutes before check in closed ... but what a sunset! And a nice meal in the posh restaurant put us in good spirits.

Nothing like a last minute dash to catch the ferry .....I remember a youngster with my parents in the (ahem 1970's), racing across France to Cherbourg to beat the French trawler blockades ...makes the onboard meal taste even better (y) Lovely photos(y)(y)

We dipped into Germany for a few days back in 2016 and weren't that keen but we came into Germany via Liechtenstein/Austria about a month ago and have enjoyed it much more than we thought we would. We think about two more weeks then we'll hit Belgium.

Just a Note:- The main issue with HULL at this time is the fact that one lane of the A63 Garrison Road is closed for realigning the carriageways!. For future reference and to watch out for, there is along term plan to "cut and cover" the existing roundabout and traffic light system at the junction of A1079 (Ferensway) and Garrison Road, when that starts!!!!!!. Hull centre will become gridlocked for large parts of the day!.

So, we dropped 15yo son off in Dortmund with his German ‘family’, had a (very good) kaffee und kuchen with them.
Have to say new CarPlay radio unit and Apple Maps was brilliant ... they live on the south side of Dortmund and it took us right round the city in motorway and though the suburbs rather than attempting city centre.
We then headed - feeling a bit lost without Sam - down to a campsite on the river Lahn just east of Koblenz for a night to contemplate Rhine vs Mosel. We were somewhat relieved to find spaces despite not booking in August.

The weather was glorious and we decided on the Mosel - turned out to be a great decision. Couple of photos of Stellplatz at Ediger and Minheim (thanks to Park4night) and of our day visit to Cochem including my amazing lunch - flammkuchen mit pfifferlingen.

We ended up there one night ... really disappointing! I should have looked more closely at the map ?. Liked Zell too near footbridge so we could walk into town.

We love Germany, but not that keen on the Mosel, although I know that a lot of people rave about it. For us, it makes a decent stop-over on the way further south.
We like Bavaria and Baden Wuerttemberg best. There are so many lovely towns and villages, and we prefer the scenery. Also, just like in Britain, different regions have different cultures and we find the way of life in southern Germany to be much more free-and-easy.

Have a good trip, we are off to Germany on Sunday, just a short trip. A couple of relaxing weeks in the Mosel area then up to Caravan salon. Only problem with that plan is we don't do relaxing when on holiday.

Grianan Bernkastle is a nice place to visit , cant advise on Stp as we went on the scooter :)

I now get what Funsters see in the Mosel ?. But we had to move on. With a rainy day forecast all over Germany we thought about the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart but no MH parking. Porsche did offer us a space but we weren’t as attracted to that idea so ended up in Rothenburg odT. Quite simply as ne of the nicest places I’ve ever visited. Even in the rain.

Then you went through the region called Allgaü, which is gorgeous. We've been there a few times now, not unrelated to the fact that Allgaü is the home of Hymer, Carthago and Dethleffs.

We passed Erwin Hymerworld - looked enormous!

Just south of Rothenburg is Nordlingen, just as nice but not as touristy .
That is definitely on to do list for next visit along with Dinkelsbuhl ... too late in day this time and time constraints to pick up son in Regensburg.

Grianan You are not far (80 easy miles) from https://sinsheim.technik-museum.de/en/
also its sister at Speyer , well worth visit with stellpaltze very close to both .
And if Speyer is on your destination list and you dont like paying 20 odd euros a night there is a free stopover right next to the Rhine and 15 minutes walk to the museum. Its on SfS

It is, for that industry. They do produce all Hymer motorhomes there, plus they have the huge Hymer Center showroom, the service center, the Erwin Hymer museum and Movera is based there too.

Was there in June, back there in September!! The big blue building on the left in the last pic was our hotel (room 3) every year since 2002 up to getting our Moho last year, now it’s the Stellplatz just outside the gate (opposite the miserable git with the Greek restaurant!??) We ❤️ Germany and Austria??

Love Germany and had a recent trip APR/May/June and maybe again later this year.

But would you have still preferred France:france:
Good question. I’m really glad we stayed in Germany and I loved it - what’s not to love. Great scenery, friendly people, good food, great beer and easy MHing - mainly (couple of towns we had to move on from as didn’t have any MH parking by the hour, only a 24 hour rate). But I’ll go back to France either in October or next year. Not MHed in France before (but have camped and caravanned as well as gites) so hope I love it as much in MH!
French is the language I’m most comfortable with as I’ve studied it at uni ... I’ve never studied German but picked up a little.

Anyway, heading south from Rothenburg we drove down to Füssen and spent a few days exploring the German Alps. Breathtaking in places, not quite as picture postcard perhaps as Austria, but beautiful nonetheless. Favourite places- Oberammergau, Bad Tolz and Ramsau.

Heads up and to add to the pot above, hull council, in their infinite wisdom, are doing roadworks on all the major routes into hull at the same time. Please give yourself extra time to get here.
We had a lovely time in Germany last year.
